Is Brexit a major cause of the current food shortgages in the UK?

Average is important. I’ve had nights at 6 and nights at -2 in the last 4 weeks. One data point of 4C is meaningless on its own.

22% reduction, I’d like to a) check the validity of that claim and b) see what the Spanish farmers are saying. We know that selling to the Uk is a ballache for them now might not be profitable or viable anymore
Its in a Guardian article and they are quoting a food growers association in Spain that represents 11,000 growers. If anything the sources are likely to be very pro-Spanish growers.

Interesting article in the Guardian about how UK producer and supplier is supplying fewer tomatoes.

The good news is that market energy costs are coming down and producer no longer have to pay 60p/hour above the minmum UK wage for workers coming on Visas.

The company say they have a plant in Middlesbrough, so the local workers should now be paid as much as imported workers.

But it will take time to work through.

As it is implied UK retailers and the general public are not willing to pay more for their food.................but they have for dairy products?

Ref Spanish temperatures - just checked today and Google told me Madrid is now 8 degrees and was 0 degrees at 0800.

I know Madrid in is inland and it will be slightly warmer on the Coast this time of the year.
In Madrid, it will always be a lot colder in winter and a lot hotter in summer than down here - it's because of its location on the central plain

As I type - 17:37 - its 15C here and clear blue skies

There used to be a big Waitrose in Eldon Square - I am sure there isa significant number of well paid professional jobs in central Newcastle. Waitrose are no fools.

Nice temperature - do you know if retired Brits there still get the Winter Cold weather Winter allowance?

Where I live in England it is currently 10 degrees. Surprised me that it was colder in Spain , must be the Gulf Stream.

Tomatoes will need a lot of assistance to grow at 8 to 10 degrees.
Interesting how you're still trying to deflect by commenting about the Spanish weather, even after we've pointed out it's irrelevant. I must admit you're a fascinating study in how to deny an event. You work so hard to try and get people to ignore the failures of brexit. Kudos to you. Sadly all you work gets undone when someone wants to travel to Capri or buy a tomato. I genuinely admire the amlin of effort you put in to trying to deny brexit failures. I'd be fascinated to know what is driving you

. The most controllable one was brexit
This is the thing that the brexit deflectors are trying to avoid isn't it?

They'll mention the weather, Putin, COVID, or all the myriad things making our lives worse. They'll if ore the fact there is nothing we can do about two of them, very little we can do about the other. Whereas we could fix the brexit failings. I honestly wonder what is wrong with these people. They know brexit has failed. Hence the effort to deflect. Why? Why would they want our country to be worse?

how do you explain the similar shortages that we are experiencing in the Republic of Ireland if it's down to Brexit?

You work so hard to try and get people to ignore the failures of brexit.
whatever metric anyone uses, brexit has been a failure. IF the Success Factors were to resolve the immigration issue, it's failed, illegal immigration is higher than ever. If it was to kick start our trade, it's failed, the economy is in tatters. If it was to return sovereignty to parliament, then that has failed too as this government have proven that parliament isn't fit to ensure that governments are honest not corrupt, this government is working on behalf of pressure groups from Tufton St, and by installing numerous puppet PMs against the will of the public, it isn't a functioning democracy.

Brexit is a failure.

I imagine brexit did cause some issues, but realistically no party wants to go near brexit and it’s not going to be reversed
It will, but probably not for at least 10 years now. Once opinion polls reach about 65% in favour, or if the economy keeps tanking then the position will pivot
