Injuries

I don't think we want to just reassure ourselves that everything's fine because Jones is back to his best. His style is more of a Plan B than the more fluid and hard to track approach we get with McGree or Ramsay playing, which should very much be our Plan A.

Jones for Forss is closer to a like for like replacement, but Forss offers a very real goalscoring threat which we'll want, and has significant playoff experience as well, so I'd like him back. Not to mention what a brilliant option off the bench Jones could be.

I think it's safe to say Ramsey is out for the season.
Looks like Forss/Smith/McNair are close, but won't be risked if there's even 1% chance of a risk/reoccurrence of the injury happening again.

Fry/McGree could be further down the line, but hopeful they make the PO's.

Only a few weeks ago we were wondering which 2 of Forss/McGree/Ramsey would start each game....now all 3 are injured.

It's not all bad news though, as it's sparked Jones into life and he's something different to all the other wide player we have.

Hopefully McGree & Forss are back for the play offs meaning all 3 of McGree, Jones & Forss are available. All 3 are effective in much different ways. And it's nice to have that option of changing it up at any moment.

Playing devils advocate with Ramsey would we need villa ok to play him if he’s injured.
Playing an injured player in the play offs...

Not.
A.
Good.
Idea.

As we should be well aware. I think it heightens the responsibility of the manager. A few weeks ago someone likened Carrick's approach to preparing for a big tournament and I thought that was an interesting take on it. Looking at what he's doing I reckon that is bob on. So for the next two games the results literally do not matter. Carrick is looking for fitness and performance. This is where Jones could be the guy that makes the difference. A few months ago some were saying he'd played his last game in a Boro shirt. I think he is the guy to make the difference. Not only that he will open up the right hand side like Giles does on the left. But, those chances and runs he made against Luton, just picture the difference if it had been Chuba getting on the end of them...

Cometh the hour arise Isaiah.

Blindingly obvious statement but match sharpness simply won't be there for a llot of the injured players. Sone players pick up the pace relatively quickly but big units usually take a few games - eg Dael Fry.
McGree has been out for quite some time, a lot to ask to step straight back in to a play-off game.

Ideally, a few of them get some game time in the last 2 league games.

Forrss and Smith sound like they’re on their way back. Akpom and Hackney will be looking to start..

Rotherham to look something like..

Dijksteel—Smith—Lenihan—Bola
———-Barlaser—Mowett———-
——Jones—Akpom—Hackney—-
——————-Crooks—————-

I wouldn't worry too much about sharpness either as they will have a basic core fitness from playing 90 % plus of the matches and will be running on adrenaline during the play offs infront of sell out stadiums

“Back very soon”

Hopefully it’s just carrick not showing his hand.
Agree with this, all players other than Clarke will be back and fit for the playoffs and potential final, Carrick is just not showing his hand before the big occassion and is using experience by changing the team, getting others game time, while keeping the opponents guessing as to who will play and how to set up against us etc

Bamford played the full 90 in the three games after Norwich.

He was playing through the pain, we were well in the hunt for automatic promotion and he was our best player.

He played in the next game, but he didn't feature against Brighton on the last day, he stayed on the bench for the home leg of the play-off semis.

He'd already been playing through injury before the Norwich game too.
