Injuries seem more frequent with footballers

Am I wrong....?
I'm afraid we are probably going to miss out on promotion this year due to them

Terrible terrible run of injuries for us

I know everyone has to suffer this but what is it with modern footballers ...

Are they more finely tuned so more susceptible ..is the game more aggressive ...I don't think it is

What is it?

Speed of the game I would guess. Football is crazy fast for a ball sport. Leg muscles will always be under strain with the speed and changes of direction. Throw in the contact and it's not great for the body.

Yeah it's been quite a couple of months for us, todays team wasn't strong. That's footy and we need to cope with that
I think this season is about consolidating with the players we have. Maybe for a punt for loan players in Jan but looking at the longer game, a push next season and more non-loanees

I had been wondering whether it's something to do with the way we train. Is training too intense, or not intense enough?

Is our fitness coach maybe not quite up to scratch?

It's not something we can debate really because we don't see what goes on behind the scenes, but it's been crazy the amount of injuries we've had up until now.

Yeah it's been really unfortunate, we must have 2 or 3 nailed on starters out and a couple more squad players. I'm not sure we've seen our best team on the pitch for quite a few weeks
C'est La Vie, it is what it is. I think we have a very good team when all fit, and a half decent squad

Let's beat Vale and worry about the rest of the season because that could be it

I heard that more players were going vegan and clubs are seeing an increase in muscular/tendon injuries as a result.

That’s right, because the likes of Lionel Messi, Lewis Hamilton, Novak Djokovic, Venus Williams and Sergio Aguero are regularly injured.
I’m not bothering to post links to all the reports that show how much healthier a vegan diet is than one that contains meat or fish, because you need to do the research yourself.

I mean for the boro
Young side playing open and expansive football at a high tempo. We are more likely as a side to be in those 50-50 situations due to the intensity we play with. This, coupled with the natural speed of the game, probably puts us more at risk of picking up knocks.

Carrick has said they have been closely analysing everything but injuries have been such a variety, not just parts of body, foot, back, heel etc but contact and non contact, muscular and not. So, hard to find any trends etc. I guess we are nothing like as bad as Newcastle but seem far worse than Warnock's Boro for instance.

Maybe but does it put any more strain on them than Warnock's man to man system? I'd guess that would involve more running, but would be interested in the stats.

(also if you read this board after a defeat the players aren't running enough! 😜).

Might just be me, but I seem to remember a previous manager (Wilder??) stating an express aim of getting on top of a spate of niggling injuries at the start of his tenure. I think he placed an emphasis on the analysis of players’ fatigue levels to avoid the likelihood of injuries occurring. I doubt that would have worked for O’Brian who was the victim of a shocking tackle.

With players being so much more valuable there aren’t as many risks taken. I imagine players end up missing games now with things they wouldn’t even have considered an injury.
Yeah I was gonna say this, plus medical staff are way better at diagnosing things and tracking injuries via data now. So you’ll pick up on a small strain that might keep you out for two weeks, rather than playing through a niggle which might get worse and keep you out for two months.

Game’s changed a bit in that players and science don’t risk making minor injuries worse, because it’s daft to do that. A lot of it you probably could play through. Which is why it’s such a weird coincidence that no-one gets injured in the latter stages of a World Cup or if they’re Man City and winning the last 15 games of a season.

Remember reading a thing a few years ago where a player said, as a professional sportsman, you’re basically always injured, you wake up every day with some minor ache and pain or strain or something. Playing through it is either mentality or convincing the doctors that you’re not that bad. Interesting, had never thought of it like that.
