India v England 4th Test

Odds on tomorrow morning Anderson opens the bowling so why not there. Just give India easy runs. Dreadful by England to open with 2 spinners.
From the commentary they were saying they expected the pitch to be flatter tomorrow morning as the cracks close up a bit overnight. Probably thought spinners could make hay on that pitch. Didn't work did it?

Fully understand Root bowling a bit more round arm driving it into the pitch but surely Anderson bowling just outside off with a 7-2 field would’ve been a better option at the other end. I’m not having ago at Hartley he’s been fantastic just think England made a poor call and didn’t do him any favours by opening with him.

Awful batting collapse from England.
Sure the pitch hasn't been favourable at times, but there's just not enough reliability in most of the batting order for me.
An opener getting 60 odd and still limping to 145 is embarrassing.

I'd have also like to have seen our most experienced bowler have a couple of overs last night, especially after he got Rohit out 1st innings. We sorely needed a wicket or two before the close of play
That being said the spinners seemed to be getting the most out of the pitch and in India's 1st innings Hartley only went for 2.5 an over so can see why he made that decision.

We need an early wicket in the first few overs and then to put the pressure on, otherwise Jaiswal and Rohit will make this chase look easy.

Predicting a complete lack of insight or willingness to examine what may have gone wrong from Stokes if we do lose this game. It looks as though we've grasped defeat from the jaws of victory.

Hope I'm wrong.

The turning point was Jurels 90 which got them to within striking distance.

Our 3rd innings is a tough one as I don’t think there were many dismissals which you could say were poor batting. Most were very good bowling. India got a number of marginal LBW’s which didn’t look out in real time either.

Bashir has been very good but Hartley and Rehan (when he has played) just aren’t consistent enough to build pressure. That makes a huge difference. Any 4 of the main Indian spinners would walk into our side.

India have just played the conditions better. It’s been a good effort. We’ve competed a lot more than the 2019 tour, but unfortunately end results have been the same.

Good performance today considering, impressed by Bashir.
Unfortunately I think we were 50-100 runs short of making that a decent game.
It's a real shame we aren't 2-2 going into the 5th, but India deserved the win.

As Vaughan said. 5 first team players missing. Batting second. First innings deficit.
Easily beaten in the end. Shyte.

And people say 'good performance' from us.

It's that happy to lose mentality that stops us from being sucessful in sport.

We had a lot go in our favour, but India have lost 4 Test Matches in India since 2013. Winning out there isn’t easy.

They aren’t bringing in really poor replacements either. Jurel pretty gave them a big helping hand in winning the test.

Kuldeep didn’t even start the series yet turned the game on its head yesterday. We don’t have the same strength and depth. Brooks / Leach being available would have helped us but provably wouldn’t have made much difference.

Don’t think anybody is happy to lose but it’s understanding what’s happened in the game and the fact we’ve went to India with 3 Spinners who’ve barely played any first class cricket. I’m bowling terms, we’re massively outgunned on pitches where it’s massively important to have decent / experienced spinners.

That said, it’s another opportunity lost. We should have been in a better position after the 2nd innings. India took the momentum and ran with it. That’s what world class sides do.

We are a very good side with some world class individuals on their day, but we simply haven’t been consistent or clinical enough in key moments.

Alternatively, just write it all off and agree we are shyte and we should never play cricket again.

I’ve been surprised by the empty stands during these test matches. Big test match v England and only 1/3 full, why is that?

Big disappointment for me was not being able to get the last three Indian wickets in the first innings more cheaply. Surprised after the build up that Stokes didn't have a bowl. England are also missing a couple, Leach and Brook so think Vaughan's being a bit harsh.

Today was objectively 'good' compared to yesterday. (A batting collapse and bowling full tosses offering an easy 40 runs at close of play)

I believe with 50-100 extra runs we would've come close to winning.

I don't make that 'good performance' statement without criticism of the team, on the same page I've posted criticism that I believe still stands and is actually in agreement with your opening points. It's dishonest to take the comment 'good performance' in isolation and imply a happiness to lose. (If your comment wasn't directed at me then apologies)

My personal take on this match overall is that we threw a strong position away, and it concerns me that, at least publicly, the team gives the impression that it can do no wrong.

Yeah, we’ve seen it all too many times before. Not sure whether playing Robinson and Anderson was the right combination on that pitch. Wood would have been dangerous with the cracks against the tail end but is obviously looked after. Perhaps Atkinson could have been the selection who is quicker than Robinson?

That was the key part of the game. We should have had at least a lead of a hundred.

As for Vaughan, he used to be one of my hero’s as a teenager when I was playing cricket. The 2004 Ashes Achievement was unbelievable and still one of the greatest series ever.

However, Vaughan as a bloke often comes across as an absolute bell end. He’s obviously paid for his opinion and he’s not often too far off the mark in Cricket. Some of his off the field opinions have been unsavoury at best over the last few years - especially around issues of race.

I just think he’s an **** hole, these days.
