Ince

It wasn't a pen. Long leaned right across, trying to get in front, but was nowhere near the ball when Smith collided with him. Long didn't have the pace to create the chance for himself. The ref got it right in my opinion though I can see that from certain angles you'd think 'Long's through, Smith's behind and he's pulled him down'
.
Our pen was soft, unfortunate on the lad, but a pen all the same - his arm his way out.

Reading were schooled and Incey is just moaning. Boro legend all the same; loved him as a player.
I did think at the time that it was shoulder to shoulder and just a collision with nothing in it

Even with 10 men we'd have won the game - it's just sour grapes from him.

What happened when their keeper dived on the ball and slid out of the penalty box? Did he manage to let go of it by the time he was out of his box? I didn't have a great view of it.

Despite Stroud's past officiating in our games, I thought he got all the big decisions right.
I was thinking their keeper had got away with one, but the laws were correctly applied in that case. It's one of those few and far between incidents so it's no surprise that people get confused.

Theirs was a penalty, not sure it’d have been a red though?
Ours was a penalty, soft but it is. The Archer claim was also a penalty from where I was sat, and I’d like to see the keeper incident again.

I thought they could've definitely had a pen. It was a similar challenge to the one Forss won so either they both were or neither were. The 1st one was the correct decision. Archer should've had one though and we would've still beaten them anyway, they were dreadful.

I do think if you take a hammering like that, you take a step back, hold your hands up and just admit you weren't good enough on the day. How many of their fans will honestly think they could've won?

You can still use the excuses as mitigation but they're clearly struggling, got a few players out etc but just be honest. Praise the fans who made the long trip and say you'll do better next time.

I sometimes wonder whether these managers believe their audience is the media rather than their own fans.

I’m 99% sure the ball crossed all the way over the line. I could see grass between the ball and the line even with my poor eyesight. The keeper never left go of it. He just pulled it back and turned back into the box with it. The linesman and the ref should both have seen it pretty clearly.

it is relevant though, regardless of what happened after, no getting away from the fact if we get a man sent off at 1 nil up and a pen against us (and it looked far more of a pen than forss') that changes the game massively

Their commentators said the Archer claim was a penalty

I thought after seeing a replay that he just managed to avoid leaving the box. My problem with it is that he only had one hand on the ball and I thought that meant that it was fair game for McGree to take it off him!

No, I think the rules changed since the player from Nottingham Forest ( I think) headed the ball from the keepers hand and scored, because Readings keeper had the ball against the floor with his hand, it would be deemed he had control of it.

I remember the infamous game when Ali and Co got held up en route to the ground and Berkshire radio stepped in and afterwards Ali mentioned that they didn’t exactly get on. So I think there’s a bit of needle between them still.

I don’t think so. I think that’s only for unsporting conduct. Todays was fair game. He wasn’t standing there holding it like Dibble was for Crosby’s cheeky header.
