The legislation is designed for huge communities that make money and cater for thousands of users.. but somehow the criteria is being misunderstood to say that people from the UK can no longer communicate with each other online!

No. They have broken it down now into advice and guidance for different levels of risk and also different size of reach etc. We are lower risk obviously and small size - am following the instructions specifically for communities like ours.

If that is a genuine solution which allows posters to contact each other securely and privately, then maybe the process should be put on here.
But I can't help but think encouraging discussions away from the board puts people more at risk than keeping them on site.

Rather than look for ways around it, we might just have to accept that personal messaging isn't going to happen (unless relationships have already been established).
Which is probably the point anyway.

It's not saying that directly. It's saying that if you run a forum and can't take all steps to ensure that it's not being used for child abuse, then you're culpable for anything that happens.

If all our DMs were either moderated or fully public, then we would still be able to use them (but neither of those options are viable).

As I said in my post last night, in order to understand why OFCOM have taken these steps, you have to think like a child abuser and not as a rational, upstanding member of society. Sadly the behavior of a very small minority is about to have a big impact on the vast majority (just as with airport security post 9/11).

Will the Direct Message icon at the top be removed? If so will there be a re-design? Transporter with a full moon rising? Lion holding (or other) holding the moon? 3 ships circling the moon? Red with a touch of blue?
