If we'd got Warnock instead of Pulis..

Mowbray before Southgate
Pearson before Strachan
Hughton before Mowbray
Wagner before Karanka
Jovanovic before Agnew
Koeman before Monk
Redknapp before Pullis
Rosenior before Woodgate
no one before Warnock

Its too early to compare Warnock's performance with Pulis.

5th (from taking over in 10th) and 7th for Pulis, was not poor.

I suspect Pulis was told to reduce the wages of the squad and raise a transfer surplus.

Warnock is a warmer character, but he has had failures too for example Cardiff's relegation in 2019.

Valdes was better than Guzan, that's the best you can say for him.
He ditched the club in a relegation battle, he should not be well remembered here.

At least Randolph had 2 excellent seasons before eventually leaving for a decent fee, and only stopped playing initially due to injury.
Valdes just disappeared.

I just didn't like him.

I just didn't rate him. It's fine spraying passes out from the back when you play for a team that has 70% possession and is rarely put under pressure (Barca).

Stick him in a Boro side who were always going to be up against it to stay in the Premier League and you get tested a wee bit more in your ability to keep the ball out of the net (you know, what should be a keepers main job).

He was brilliant that season, we wouldnt have been able to bring in a keeper anywhere near his ability at that time.

He is a player that has won everything, in his final year I couldnt really blame him for not playing for Steve Agnew and an already relegated side

I too thought Valdes was good for us. I won’t remember him well for what he did towards the end but I thought he pulled off some excellent saves at times and it’s great to have someone who played for that legendary Guardiola Barca side have played for this club.

I agree with OP.

Pulis took us backwards and left us with a shocking squad.

Despite the fact he literally took us forward from when he took over.

Then again you thought it was mathematically impossible for us to get the play-offs on the final day.C5BBDAFC-1DA9-4DBF-8CB7-40FD68B6382D.jpeg

He did an awful job and wasted a fortune doing it too

If you think 5th and 7th is an awful job you really need to recalibrate your expectations or you’re going to be in for much disappointment in the years ahead.

Bang on.

He's part of the reason we're in this god awful mess.

So called fans like you are part of the reason we are in this mess. You demanded Pulis be removed with anyone who will attack coming in and took a massive step back when the consequences emerged.

With a squad that already cost about 60 million, plus a further 20 million for him to spend. Anything other than promotion with that is a massive failure.

You think that squad was good enough for promotion?

I have to question if you’ve ever watched a game of football in your life.

Yes because everyone that wanted Pulis sacked wanted Woodgate to replace him

Pointless even discussing it JM14.

The Pulis support is strong with some....even though he failed in his targets.

We played some of the worst football we've ever seen at The Riverside.

We spent a fortune and wasted our main budget on players in positions we didn't need.

We sold key players and didn't replace them.

Pulis also broke a long unwanted home record.

Yet some still think he wasn't a failure.

No I am saying that walking into a squad that already cost 60 million, with another 20 million to spend should guarantee promotion. Even spending 20 million alone and finishing outside the playoffs can only mean you have done a poor job.
