Idiots and their SUVs

There's a house near me with a few vehicles on the drive - two SUVs and an electric. I knocked on their door a while back and told them to sell the lot of them only to be told where to go.

Yeesh. You'd think people would be more grateful to receive unsolicited advice in the convenience of their own home? Is there something you're not telling us? Did you try to invoice them for this consultation or something?

The new EV-Hummer, weighs 4 tonnes, takes 24 hours to give it a full charge & can do 0-60 in 3 seconds. Totally sensible car for the school run, popping to the shops etc.

Thank God we are still able to exercise choice.
I drive one because of access at home AND because I love the elevated driver position as I have much better visibility.
I loved my X5 but it was too big when the kids grew and I no longer ferried lads around for junior football.
Let people choose and pay the price that goes with them.

Another illustration of how this country and the people in it are a total lost cause - the popularity of jacked up cars otherwise known as SUVs 😆

These things have never made sense. They drive poorly, are less efficient and much more expensive to run and repair than normal cars. The biggest laugh is they are now taking these already heavy vehicles and sticking a battery in them that weighs half a ton plus. It defeats the whole object of what an electric vehicle should be. That's why EVs are a shambles and certain to fail in their current form.

It actually turns out that these EVs are probably causing more damage to the environment than traditional cars. Noticed how bad the roads have got in recent years? The weight of a vehicle has a direct impact on the road surface and repairs and maintenance need to be increased dramatically. Unnecessary SUVs are a major problem but it becomes a problem on steroids when EVs are introduced. The tyre emissions also go up massively meaning any benefit to the environment has long disappeared, if it actually existed at all.

There's a house near me with a few vehicles on the drive - two SUVs and an electric. I knocked on their door a while back and told them to sell the lot of them only to be told where to go. Anyway, I made a note of the plate numbers and played my hand accordingly. I've managed to get them quite a few parking tickets when I've spotted them out and about. There was a really cheeky one where I spotted their ticket had 10 mins to go, so I hung about and got a traffic warden ready to pounce. I got a Costa in and watched the situation unfold out of sight. They returned just as the ticket had been issued. I'm not sure what was in that coffee, but it certainly tasted good, gents.
Wow, that last paragraph makes you sound like a really awful human being!

the sheer size of modern cars does annoy me, I'll admit. completely unnecessary, fashion/ego/status symbols. huge resources, completely over engineered & specced, and a sign that we are going completely the wrong way with transport design. the only good thing to come out of it is watching people trying to park the fookers. I dream of a world where each road has some converted yugo's..... to share.
agree about the size, they're a nightmare if you have one either side in a parking space and they exaggerate the visual eyesore of cars parked all around housing estates, villages etc etc.

Is this actually about SUVs or are people just thinking that their life choices should be the benchmark, and anyone who goes beyond what they perceive to be normal should be vilified?

Unless you’ve gone out and bought a vehicle that’s exactly the right size for your needs and no more than that. A vehicle that has the best economy possibly available. A vehicle that wasn’t shipped from overseas. A vehicle that’s only used when absolutely necessary and at full capacity. Then really your argument is flawed.

The same theory applies to just about every subject. Usually brought about by people with a bee in their bonnet but not much between their ears.
“Ban private jets, but not my unnecessary holiday”
“Tax the rich (er than me)”
“Rights for every working person, except the countless number who suffer to supply the weekend bag of marching powder”

You might argue that travelling to a football match, is unnecessary. Shall we put some sort of emissions tax on that or just outright ban it?

It's just the usual socialist envy that infests this board!

For every person that needs a car for the reasons given (3 kids, long journeys) there are 5 who have it for status.

Plenty of people where I live have no children, 2 child’s or less and just use it to drive around town. Pointless

Iam not up on how environmentally friendly they are but they are a b***r in car parks taking up 1.5 spaces

Are you against things that are totally pointless or just things more pointless than the pointless things that you do?
I’m off to the match tomorrow night. Pointless.

The debate about SUVs seems to be dominated by emissions, or batteries, but there is also an environmental issue just with the size of the vehicle when , as is the case of where I live, you find 9 out of 10 cars parked on a street are SUVs. Someone could be attacked on the pavement and it would go unseen. Driving along the street, it's practically a black tunnel. When they clear a street for the tree surgeons, or whatever, you think 'wow, this is how it looked 60 years ago, what a difference'.

Another thing. You are driving on a dual carriageway at, say 70mph, in the r/h lane, overtaking buses and trucks. You can see through the windows of the car in front. When a SUV pulls out in front of you, it's like a sight screen, reducing your stopping distance and forcing you to back off.
'tall vehicles' should have the same speed restriction as HGVs. If you bought one for necessary off-road use, you won't need to go faster than 60mph.
How do you cope with lorries, vans, buses etc..???

We haven't got the space for every household to have 2 or 3 cars. We have to get people using other methods of transport.
A lot of people do have the space at their house, you cant build a new detached 3 or 4 bed without room for at least 2 cars on driveway + garage.

A lot of pathetic envy on here, they really don't have much impact on other people and now most are electric you cant have go on environmental matters.
