Howson

Howson's last good game was away to Forest in January, and to be fair that was arguably his best of the whole season.

He doesn't offer anything going forward, can't thread a pass, doesn't make runs, and he's not great at tracking his man either.

I like him as a professional but I worry if he is to be one of our main men in midfield...

Bringing in a holding midfielder now needs to be a priority for me. I was going to post this after the Bristol game but we'd won, and I wanted to give Howson the benefit of doubt and see how he performed tonight.

He was hopeless. Few times in the 1st half they were able to have free reign to run at our defence and I was wondering where Howson was.

He gave the ball away in the lead up to two of their goals and I'm sick of seeing him aimlessly hoof the ball forward.
Definitely this. I couldn't believe how often they won the ball and were able to run directly at the centre backs. The midfield was shocking.

Weve got two young players in Hackney and Malley. Wing offered mote than Howson. Weve created a problem in the middle of the park. Plus Tav, Crooks Payero. None are strikers, none are really midfielders but you have to sacrice one of those positions for ine or more if those pkayers to start in the same team. Honestly dont need more than two CM. Hackney or Malley alongside one if Morsy, McNair or Howson. Try it or at worst loan a midfielder. Its not just that Howsin played bad. Hes not an effective leader. If we'd had a real captain we woukd of been more organised and won that game

We’ve seen careers tail off quickly with better central midfielders recently in Leadbetter and Clayton, Howson wasn’t as good as them from the off but is tailing off just as badly. We must make signing a central midfielder a priority

Atrocious tonight. Totally anonymous other than when he was making mistakes. Conceded three goals that were totally avoidable. All obvious but its the same every week. Jones looks a player though
Jones were awesome, he lost the ball after doing an impression of Adam Hammel then showed such determination to win the ball back then pass to Crooks for our equaliser, class

Our two centre midfielders were pretty much non existent tonight, especially in the second half. Was far too easy for QPR to pass around them and put us on the back foot. Happened time and time again.

I mentioned last season after a long injury layoff Howson hasn't been the same player

How many times Rob Dickie step out of defence and walk past McNair and Howson. Was laughable really. I blame the defeat solely on them 2 players tonight.
I think that's partly to do with Warnock's man marking which allows one midfielder/ defender to drop deeper and not have a player to mark meaning there's always one CB free to do what dickie was doing.

Tav comes in and one of those two are dropped, you would think. But we can't rely on that, must sign another before the window closes as a priority.

I'd be happy to see Djiksteel have a run of games playing as the holding midfielder, and then have Tav alongside McNair/Malley in midfield. Would mean we'd need to sign a RB of course, unless we go with wing-backs.

There was a moment not long after they'd taken the lead where the crowd were starting to become restless, Lumley had the ball and neither McNair or Howson showed for it. Felt to me as if they were hiding, which was disappointing to see from two experienced players.

Howson went in to total hiding after his own goal. Can’t get my head round how Warnock didn’t drag him off.

Wow, didn't even realise it was him who'd scored the own goal. I sit in the North stand so didn't get a good view of it.

That just further compounds his performance then.

Yep gave the ball away on the half way line, bust a gut to get back to try rectify his mistake and ended up getting over excited and put the ball into his own net. After than he hid like you said. Really poor from the captain.

Thats an interesting idea. Spence was ok tonight but hes not a winger or a midfielder. Dijksteel Cm and Spence at RB. Thats where Dijksteel pkayed for Charlton
