How can Oasis sell all those stadiums out at £150 a go?

It's an uplifting story isn't it.
I’m just glad that after their split they were both able to continue playing oasis songs with oasis band members and now at nearly 60 years of age.. Noel has finally been offered enough money to stand on the same stage as his brother.

1990s culture in general, but especially the Britpop era is pretty cringeworthy when you look back. It was basically a marketing concept based on hype and a supposed kickback against US culture and influence. It was all manufactured in reality, by music executives and the media, the quality of the music that came out of it wasn't that good.

Oasis were a band that were for young people that weren't really into music as such. A lot of their fans were school kids and teenagers. I guess their music attracts kids from new generations and that mixes with the nostalgia of the older audience. Personally, I haven't get anything against them as such. Noel Gallagher was pretty crafty with doing various things - a lot of his songs involve a blatant rip off from other material. A lot of their gigs were notoriously poor as well.
The 90s.. everything was retro and ironic..
it wasn’t all bad.

You’re right about most of this.

But as I’m sure we’ve all learned by now, the British public don’t always behave exactly as you want them too. And nor should they.

Oasis tapped into something, whatever it was, but they did. That’s pretty unquestionable when you look at the joy the reunion has brought miilions of fans, old and new.

Anyone feeling “ripped off” will have no issues reselling the tickets at the price they paid. So I don’t think this is quite the societal tragedy some are claiming.

It’s hardly a Liam and Noel thing, dynamic pricing has been ruining gigs long before this. Taylor Swift, Springsteen etc.
Taylor Swift didn't have it I believe. Neither did Ed Sheeran. Its down to the greedy bands whether they use it or not. But hey Noel has a divorce to pay for and Liam needs a new haircut.

The Speaker of the House of Commons had to pay £700 plus booking fees for 2 tickets.

This is one reason why the tickets are £350 - its not 19/20 year old students buying the tickets, as was the case in the past.

If its Lindsey Hoyle - he is 67 and used to own his own printing and textile business - likely to be on an income and wealth level well above the average who is buying.

The worse bit about the surge pricing for me was it punished people, who through no fault of their own, had to wait for hours to get tickets.

I logged on at 8:30 and at around 3:30 I got in with a chance to purchase tickets, I then saw standing tickets at 350 quid so I politely declined!!!

If I had decided at 3:30 to chance my arm and see if any were available then being asked to pay more might have sat a little better but the fact it was down to pure luck whether I got charged 150 quid or 300 quid is just wrong.

Gutted that my lad hasn’t had the chance this time to see them but it wil hopefully make it even sweeter when we go to a European leg and got a few days away for the same price as a ticket on this country.

Exactly the same. I can’t quite work out what I did wrong so as to only get the chance to purchase tickets at that price after 6-7 hours. Some people surely logged on at the same time and by 10am were done and dusted with standard pricing?

I am reasonably apathetic about the reunion itself, and confident of seeing them further down the road, so I’m not spitting my dummy out, but I do find it a bit baffling how it all worked.

Actually, might have been a little harsh. Do like this version by Liam Gallagher, has his voice recovered from years ago?

I missed out on tickets.. looks like I’m gonna have to settle on seeing 20 better bands for the same amount of money.
Hope you made it to the Georgian last night Newy. Jeffrey Lewis and The Voltage supported by David Cronenbergs Wife was a fantastic show. Possibly my gig of the year so far.

No I missed that one.. never even heard of them tbh.

Listening on Spotify now.. sounds dead good!

I think it sad they use this tool to drive pricing so cynically.
Now they have (like others) done so, then I hope at least for those who have paid so much, that they put on a show and don't sulk their way through a terrible set of shows.

No axe to grind for me as I wouldn't pay £35 to see them play the 4 tracks off the first album that I liked back then.
I genuinely hope those who have bought have a great time.

TBH I fully expected all this stuff and its one of the wrong reasons I was never pushing for a reunion. I was quite enjoying Noel's solo career, being able to see him wherever I wanted in intimate venues at a stomachable price, listening to his intimate Matt Morgan podcast, and seeing him resist the temptation to cash in on a big pay day.

I DO think he probably wants to smooth things over with Liam (and probably has already) but I always knew it would be massive stadiums, huge demand for tickets, inflated pricing, VIP areas, people filming everything on their phones and singing along to guitar solos. In fact, I didn't want a ticket anyway! 😁
