I'd love one of those interviews too.I’d prefer an honest, frank, no stone left unturned ‘coluka meets Gibson’ interview to discuss the club and his decision making, post Eindhoven.

There was one in the middle of the defence. Not one academy player on the bench speaks volumes to me as well.
The thing with Gibson appointing someone like Scott shows that he is trying to move on, modernise, try and make the club sustainable eventually. We’re only a year into that change of approach.Since Eindhoven football has moved on but Gibson hasn’t, probably because he doesn’t have the funds or footballing acumen to do so. Let’s face it pre Eindhoven we had a modicum of success because we chucked money at it, for which Gibson is rightly applauded, not because we necessarily made good football decisions (eg: three points, Ziege etc….)

Pre-Eindhoven, at least under McClaren, the club was run very well. Money was spent wisely. The year we finished 7th I think we had the 11th or 12th highest wage-bill. The balance between experienced class and promising youth was absolutely perfect IMO. You’ve picked out Ziege and 3 points, but what about two promotions and a new stadium and an FA Cup and two successive League Cup finals(one when we were in the second division FFS), the catalogue of global names coming to play their football on Teesside. Yes the chairman and his supporters spent big money but that’s no guarantee. Loads of clubs have pished more than we did away and achieved the square root of absolutely jacksh*t. You don’t do what Boro if all you’ve got of money. You have to have other stuff about you.
We’re struggling now but it’s so sad to see such little patience. People wanted the chairman to put a plan, a structure, a longer term plan in place. But that might take a while to come to fruition(if it ever does at all). People have turned on the manager, the players, the chairman, the staff. It’s quite sad to see.
You know when clubs like Brentford and Brighton and Swansea put these great plans together and everyone wants us to follow that model? Well it took those clubs seasons and seasons before they scaled the heights. There might be some short term pain for us while people sort some stuff out. I find it a bit sad and a bit irritating that nobody, or few people on here, seems prepared to wait any longer than 10 games.
This plan, this new start, may not work under Wilder. But my word, people are going to such lengths to express their disgust and disappointment these days. I think Wilder will be gone soon anyway. The momentum has gone. I’m just bored with this constant chopping and changing of managers. We hired a good one and now seem to want to get rid of him a year into a major overhaul. I don’t get it TBH.

If it’s ‘nail on head,’ how come every other club that’s spent big money across Gibson’s tenure hasn’t achieved the level of success Middlesbrough did?Nail on the head.
I do think it’s about time we had somebdy else from the club other than Wilder giving an interview. It would make sense if Scott could come out and tells us what he has been up to in his first 12 months at the club rather than us all second guesing what is going on behind the scenes and jumping to the wrong conclusions.
Without looking at the figures Blackburn spent similar to ourselves and achieved much more. The season we finished seventh under McLaren both Everton and Bolton finished above us with I would guess lower budgets. One of the promotions you quote wouldn’t have been necessary without the three points debacle and we were also hurtling towards relegation with Boksic and Karambeau. I think pre Eindhoven some of these shortcomings were covered up by Gibson investing in the club, now we don’t have that luxury as others are wealthier than us.The thing with Gibson appointing someone like Scott shows that he is trying to move on, modernise, try and make the club sustainable eventually. I get the sense that Wilder will be gone soon anyway. The momentum has started to ebb away. I’m quite bored with this constant chopping and changing of managers and find it tedious. I think the chairman hired a good one and now people want him to get rid of him a year into a major overhaul. People were hanging on Wilder’s every word when he arrived and said he was going to sort stuff, clear it out, put the plans down. It’s only been a year FFS. And he’s had his best player sold from beneath him.
I don’t get this anger that’s flying around on here TBH.
Ultimately it should be the managers final say in who comes in. What’s the point in signing a player who the manager doesn’t want in his starting eleven, or in any match day squad.
I’m not expecting Wilder, or any manager who comes in to be scouting every player. What he can do is look at any player recommended and say whether he would want them here or not. I wonder if he knew anything at all about Hoppe before he arrivedI just don't think that's very realistic for now. Maybe that was good in the 80s when teams were mostly only signing british players.
How much time realistically can Wilder devote to watching other teams matches to scout out targets he wants? He's meant to be coaching, strategising, looking at the next opponents.
And he’s had his best player sold from beneath him.
100% we should have had a series of targets as replacements for tav sounds like complete complancey they just assumed he would stayAgree with everything else in your post VAN except for this point. Warno warned us Tav would leave for the prem this summer a year ago. Bad failing by the club/Scott/Wilder to not be ready for it.
