Has anyone got a holiday coming up?

The problem with self isolating is what happens when everyone goes back on the streets?
We don’t know but, one thing for sure, the virus is still around?
That’s why I’m supportive of the government for not locking down too early.

we shall see what happens in China and South Korea where restrictions are being lifted. Yes I imagine the virus is still around though. I don’t think this one will fully go away ever

Big family cruise booked for August. Probably going to have to cancel, especially as one or two memebers of our group have health issues, which would put them in the top risk category if they picked up this virus.

Cruise company are basically offering us £ 200 free spending money if we do not cancel.

I think a lot of holiday companies and aitlines are going to go bust because of this. Flybe might just be the start of it. :(

Taiwan and Hong Kong virtually back to normal by taking good public health precautions two months ago. No real lock down except for visitors from infected countries self isolating.

Going to be frightening when we have 20-40 million people infected at one time and the rest of the world virtually clear of the virus. Can't see anyone wanting anyone from the UK for about 12-24 months if we follow the herd immunity policy that might not even work.

It’s not going to be frightening at all. It’ll all just die down

Come on ST. You have no idea. Everything is a possibility from ‘it will die down’ to around 40m being infected here.

We have already seen criticism from WHO and at least one country reporting we are putting economics before lives.
We may, indeed, be the ones to have got this right.
The alternative view is just as valid tho

Or both to be fair. You said yourself it can (and almost certainly will) hang around in the population for a long time if not indefinitely.
My point is, personally I think April will be rough. Really rough. But if it's as bad as you think it's going to be it'll bunt itself out a bit. You can't spread as a virus by killing your hosts . If it isn't that bad then it'll linger but just become a background thing. Like flu or cancer

You seem to be saying our medical experts' don't know what they're taking about. Our (medical experts') policy is to cause at least 40 million people to be infected in order to (hopefully but not certainly) develop herd immunity. This is the plan!

I think they do know what they are talking about. Which is why I put that into my first scenario.

Malta in May for a week. The Maltese government have just put in place a two week isolation from anyone entering the island!

I don't think it will be as bad as the medical experts plan as people won't accept this high fatality outcome and will take their own common sense precautions to confound the policy.

That is not the plan at all
