Grealish

I
Looks like some of you lads have a new pantomime villain. That's football
I certainly wasn’t intending to paint him as a villain. I think he’s a great guy has a good heart and i know he does a lot for charity. My comment is purely as a fan I want him at his best being successful for England with as few distractions as possible.

It suggests he didn’t when he did it
People change
Exactly this, hopefully he has learned from it and would never do it again.

Grealish does a lot for disabled charities and football in the community stuff, but it does feel that the press are building him up, waiting to bring him down again with some revelation or expose. Hopefully he has the right people around him to make sure that doesn't happen. I also, think he's playing up to it as well, and is thriving on the attention.

Is he even in the England squad? Can't see him playing much on Friday if he is. Apparenrly he told Jimmy Bullard on talksport yesterday that he was in a world of pain

I’ve no issue with him at all, but just saying he’s done stuff not long ago that would routinely be filed as arrogant footballer behaviour. I hope he has changed, yes. But my comments were more about how these things can quickly be used against you the minute you lose form etc. But it’s his bed and he’ll have to lie in it. I hope he has a great season next year and makes a starting berth in the England side his own next summer.

I think I speak for most men when I say that you wouldn't see me for days either if I won the treble. I have a pint if I have a mildly productive day at work.

I heard one comment on the radio yesterday that it was insensitive to the alcoholic community... the "alcoholic community". Never heard so much nonsense.

My opinion of Grealish changed after the way he conducted himself when the Birmingham fan attacked him on the pitch. He laughed it off, went on to score the winning goal and in his post-match interview described it as "the best day of his life". Thought he showed real class and maturity that day.

I've also been impressed with the way he interacts with fans. Seems to genuinely want to go out of his way to make a fuss whenever he meets a fan, which is something many modern players don't bother to do.

He should be condemned for drink driving of course but I remember there was once a thread on here about drink driving and a lot of posters admitted to drink driving in their younger days. Hopefully Grealish fully regrets doing it and will never do it again.

Is it arrogant football behaviour or arrogant young man behaviour? I think that can be one and the same.

The team I ran won the treble which included the North Riding Cup and had a good run reaching the quarter finals in the all England Amateur Cup. We went on the **** for a full weekend after that and proceeded to do it every weekend for a month.

Ok. Well only one of my mates has ever been done for drink driving and the guy has serious alcohol issues, and it was in his mid-30s, we weren’t young. Maybe it’s more common amongst others, dunno, can only go off my own experience of being a young lad.

I am talking about drink driving not partying. That said there were one or two of my mates when young who would have been done had they been caught. But it was when they were 18, not mid-20s and in positions of leadership as Grealish was when he got done.

As I say, this doesn’t define Grealish as a human being, but it does seem to have been quickly forgotten about despite being only during covid, not long ago. The media will be the first to bring it up again if he suffers a loss of form, along with this week’s pictures which currently seem like harmless fun.

Mine was when he did that celebration for the young lad during the World Cup. He came across very humble during that and a nice lad. Before that I used to think he was a right chewy t**t.

Grealish is nothing like Gascoigne.

Gazza is a grade A bell end. I also think he was massively overrated as a player.

He had a couple of good seasons and 1 decent tournament for England- Italy 1990. The goal against Scotland in Euro 1996 doesn't cover the fact he wasn't great in that tournament.

Yes that injury may have played a big part in his career going downhill, but his antics off the pitch throughout seasons goes to show what an idiot he really was/is.

As for Grealish, he's done a few naughty things in the past - especially the drink driving incident (unforgivable), but since that, it does seem like he's turned his life around. He does a lot for the fans and you can tell he's living his dream. He's acting and reacting like a lot of us would do if we had just won the treble at his age and with his background. I can't blame him for his antics during these celebrations, it seems like he's having a great time, he's harmless, and he's bringing a lot of entertainment/fun to the game.

As for England, that LW spot should be his for the foreseeable. His goal scoring/assist stats could be better, but if you just look at his game, he's a fantastic player and one that needs to be in that first 11 for England, without any doubt.

Supposed to be a really good lad, signs autographs always has time for fans etc. Not one of these d*ckheads who sticks their cans on and then pretends fans are invisible (** Leeds, cough cough **).

He's not the sharpest tool in the shed, so think a lot of his antics be excused for not being the brightest. And being on a 3?4? day bender, you are going to be acting like a bit of a tw*t. He'll see the pictures in a few weeks and be cringing at a load of them as he won't remember any of it.

Innocent fun 👍

I never said he was involved with the rape I said he was present. She went back to Mendys home because of Grealish to sleep with Grealish which she did. He had to give evidence to that in court. My point was he was drunk it could have been worse for him. People make bad decisions when p1ssed up. So get off your high horse read what I wrote hell read the reports from court before jumping down my throat and miss representing what I wrote.
Apologies if I misunderstood the point of your post Priv. I've since looked at his involvement and see that he was at a party at Mendy's house on the night of an alleged rape, but wasn't involved nor accused of any wrongdoing. I still think it's dangerous to post what you did as it is quite easy to infer from those comments that he was somehow involved in the sexual assault/rape.

Going overboard when you've won the CL at the end of the season, is ok.. it's if he's getting - drunk - repeatedly throughout the season that it will ruin his career..

Drinking to excess is still, surprisingly, very much part of both British & so sporting culture..

One Serious injury away from a Gazza Career meltdown. Really like the lad and how he has turned his life around but I do fear for him. Don't know how he would cope if he is out of the game for a while
Nowhere near the same as Gazza.

Grealish is probably lucky to have one night (or one bender, in his case) a month, and probably won't drink anything for the rest of the time, it simply wouldn't be allowed, certainly not from an elite club, who paid ~£100m for him. This applies whether he's fit, not fit, playing, not playing, injured etc.

Gazza will have been hammered practically every night.

It's been around 30 years since Gazza was at his peak, and players drinking probably reduced from then, and the big boozing largely stopped around 10-15 years ago. Players had to stop, as the Europeans largely didn't do it, or had already stopped, English players wouldn't have been able to compete in the modern game (last decade), if they hadn't.

He could end up a boozer once his playing days are done mind, and also possibly end up overweight etc.

Grealish isn't even close to the standard gazza was prior to injuries. Having said that grealish is very disciplined on the pitch gazza was extremely reckless. Off the pitch grealish would be shown the door by pep if he showed at tenth of the irresponsibility gazza did.

Grealish was punished by Pep last season for going out midweek.

He went out with Foden I believe? And both were punished and benched for a couple of games.

Since then, I think Grealish has toned it down. You rarely see him in the papers during the season getting smashed now. Unlike Gazza, when it used to be nearly every day.
