It is avoidable if the club can allow everyone some opportunity of attending games rather than keeping it a closed circle of the same people.I don't disagree with the final sentence, I'm just not sure its avoidable.
Why wouldn't they see every game if they've bought a season ticket? (unless they chose to miss one for some reason or couldn't attend due to illness etcWould anyone buy a season ticket if they knew that they couldn't see every game?
Already renewed (not a gold card holder) month back. I might be the minority here but if I didn't get to every game that is open to fans this season at the riverside, I wouldn't be happy.Would anyone buy a season ticket if they knew that they couldn't see every game?

If games are closed due to covid and no fans like the last few games of the season just gone then that's ok, but I wouldn't be happy if the club decided to do say a lottery and everyone who hadn't renewed then got a shot.
I've not missed a home game for years, i would only miss if unwell.
Not impossible but extremely high maintenance, how would you reconfigure a whole stadium, match by match, and adhere to the social distancing and track and trace policies. It is but with modern ticketing systems this is not an impossible task.

Unfortunately the 'being fair' boat has sailed long ago with multiple approaches such as free for all sales, gold card holders only, if you ring up we'll renew a card that doesn't fit publicised criteria.I know we have several threads open about this but we need as many people to scratch their head and think up what is fairest way forward.
The question is what to do with the remaining seats.
There might end up being more than 9000 after bubbles etc.
Should they just be opened up to all season ticket holders first come first served. Or should a small batch be available match by match?
If the latter surely you need a mechanism. You cannot risk the chance of unsold tickets when season card holders would have snapped them up.
Also maybe an amnesty period where if guaranteed your seat for 2021-22 ,you could get a refund if you only renewed because you didnt want to lose your seat. I have a feeling when it comes down to it that very few would do this but it could be offered, perhaps.
What do other people think? A season ticket only season or a small number of tickets set aside match by match?
Yes the more I think about it - I am of the opinion if you have match by match sales they must be through a ballot rather and from a list of fans rather than just making a number of tickets available. The club needs the revenue but also to be fair to fans that would have taken those seats through season cards if they had the opportunity.
Are there any ideas people have come across in cricket, other sports or other events (not that there are a lot of other events) - for fairer distribution of tickets? Or even any examples of really bad practice - out there.
Another problem that could occur with allowing a section of the stadium for non season card holdera is if the team are playing badly and at the wrong end of the table they are the least liable to turn up and would leave empty areas that rejected season card holders would have used.
My point was SC holders should get priority rather than allowing a section for ‘Walk Ups’as some have suggested.
And we had loads of gates under 9000 at Ayresome Park.
