Gold Season Card Holders

Would anyone buy a season ticket if they knew that they couldn't see every game?
Already renewed (not a gold card holder) month back. I might be the minority here but if I didn't get to every game that is open to fans this season at the riverside, I wouldn't be happy.

If games are closed due to covid and no fans like the last few games of the season just gone then that's ok, but I wouldn't be happy if the club decided to do say a lottery and everyone who hadn't renewed then got a shot.

I've not missed a home game for years, i would only miss if unwell.

I've paid for my season tickets on the expectation that I will go to the match if fans are allowed to attend.

If MFC now turned round and said I cant attend so someone else can have a go they'll be on very dodgy ground.

Not impossible but extremely high maintenance, how would you reconfigure a whole stadium, match by match, and adhere to the social distancing and track and trace policies.

By having areas where you have blocks of tickets available for individual sale, 2 tickets together etc. The club will already know the common denominations tickets are sold in.

Social distancing and track and trace are straightforward for a ticketed event.

I was referring more to a ballot than a match by match but you do run the risk of losing revenue by going the match by match route, I would only sell tickets as singles or in pairs, anything more than that complicated things.

Yes the more I think about it - I am of the opinion if you have match by match sales they must be through a ballot rather and from a list of fans rather than just making a number of tickets available. The club needs the revenue but also to be fair to fans that would have taken those seats through season cards if they had the opportunity.

Are there any ideas people have come across in cricket, other sports or other events (not that there are a lot of other events) - for fairer distribution of tickets? Or even any examples of really bad practice - out there.

I know we have several threads open about this but we need as many people to scratch their head and think up what is fairest way forward.

Would it be easier if the club knew what the interest was for tickets? Ask who of the season card holders left want to go/then general sale interest?

If the demand is less than they have left available that's easy for them. If they have double people to tickets then your talking alternative games (half season cards in essence) and so on? If little to no interest then you can look at general sale options.

Another problem that could occur with allowing a section of the stadium for non season card holdera is if the team are playing badly and at the wrong end of the table they are the least liable to turn up and would leave empty areas that rejected season card holders would have used.

Unfortunately the 'being fair' boat has sailed long ago with multiple approaches such as free for all sales, gold card holders only, if you ring up we'll renew a card that doesn't fit publicised criteria.

And like @DCI_Gene_Hunt says people have bought tickets now expecting to go. If the club wanted a ballot approach then they should have announced that at start and conducted unlimited sales for everyone who wanted to be included.

Yep true - Mind you, of course many people had already renewed before the new ground capacity was put in place. That was a situation out of the club's hands. Finances wise this is an absolute nightmare for football clubs - how can they operate on a third ground capacities?

The question is what to do with the remaining seats.
There might end up being more than 9000 after bubbles etc.
Should they just be opened up to all season ticket holders first come first served. Or should a small batch be available match by match?
If the latter surely you need a mechanism. You cannot risk the chance of unsold tickets when season card holders would have snapped them up.
Also maybe an amnesty period where if guaranteed your seat for 2021-22 ,you could get a refund if you only renewed because you didnt want to lose your seat. I have a feeling when it comes down to it that very few would do this but it could be offered, perhaps.
What do other people think? A season ticket only season or a small number of tickets set aside match by match?

Haven't we covered this?

There is zero chance tickets would go unsold on a match by match basis if the max capacity is 9,100

Are you saying you'd only open the ballot to fans that have previously had season cards? No walk ups?

That's not going to happen. The club have never had a league attendance figure below 9,000 IIRC

My point was SC holders should get priority rather than allowing a section for ‘Walk Ups’as some have suggested.
And we had loads of gates under 9000 at Ayresome Park.
