Gigs you wish you were at.

Another one for Japan. Loved them and have been known to sit at pianos in various places, picking out Nightporter.

Harry, I always knew you wuz cool! Nightporter is a must in those smoky, dark jazz clubs. Sitting at the piano sucking on a gitanes whilst a sultry French woman pouts at the next table!!

Love Nightporter, haven't played it for years though. Will rectify this today!
I've always loved the old BBC footage (TOTP or OGWT) where Mick avoids playing the bass, despite being one of the best ever. Possibly apocryphal, but totally believable, that he learned all bass playing styles then taught himself to play them backwards to create the Mick Karn/Japan sound.

Japan played at the Coatham Bowl?!
there is no record of it on the Japan gig-ography list, or on the Coatham Bowl official gig list on facebook.

japan did support stints for Blue Oyster Cult (didnt play coatham) and jim capaldi (who did play coatham but with Motorhead)

It separates 'em at parties. One for late on, when we're all feeling it. A select few go all misty-eyed, while most yawn and wonder when they can start dancing again to some sh*t record. ;)

there is no record of it on the Japan gig-ography list, or on the Coatham Bowl official gig list on facebook.

japan did support stints for Blue Oyster Cult (didnt play coatham) and jim capaldi (who did play coatham but with Motorhead)

What an amazing list. Would love a time machine to see so many of those gigs! That's not a definite list though as I saw Cowboy Junkies at Coatham and that gig isn't listed there.

It separates 'em at parties. One for late on, when we're all feeling it. A select few go all misty-eyed, while most yawn and wonder when they can start dancing again to some sh*t record. ;)
I Second That Emotion was the song we stick on at parties as 14 year olds to get going with the girls lol

there is no record of it on the Japan gig-ography list, or on the Coatham Bowl official gig list on facebook.

but that dont mean it didnt happen
That list brings back some memories 👍

It would have been well before 81. I saw them in 81 and they were headlining at much bigger venues in major cities rather than playing support slots then.

This is why I'm intrigued to know what year he said he saw them at the Bowl. Sorry, can't remember the name of the poster now!

A good friend saw them on the final world tour in Hong Kong... still has the tee shirt and still maintains it's the best gig he's ever been to!
