Gigs you wish you were at.

Lucky enough to see Neil Finn and his sons on the recent tour.

Lovely.

Also saw saw the Finn brothers live at the Albert Hall in 96, Tim Finn is amazing , so much energy. Seen him a few times now.

But daft I know, but Bryan Adam's was amazing, just kept going.

THE SMITHS - Middlesbrough Town Hall October 1986...

I believe they also played there 1984 & 1985 but I was too young/not into them then, but in 1986 I had become aware that I liked more than a few of their songs even thought I was mostly into Soul/Funk, Hip-hop and the new House music emerging from Chicago

any Blondie Gig pre 1982 ... saw most of the punk scene "stars" Pistols, Clash, Damned, loads at the Rock Garden but never caught Debbie and Clem in the prime ....

Must be an age thing as homesickblues posted earlier as many of these you could have caught local Japan.......support at Coatham Bowl, AC/DC with Bon Scott.............played The Town Hall etc etc

Bands I would have liked to have seen R.E.M, The Beatles, Manic Street Preachers at the Crypt......................didnt get tickets and when we got there it was sold out. Apart from that I think I may have seen almost all of the bands I want to see. Just keep going you may miss things off your bucket list but there is some fine music out there. Just this week I have seen The Burning Hell(twice), Suede, Nadine Shah, Shrug, and The Nightingales plus numerous support acts. Great but tiring week.

The first Woodstock in 1969 would have been 'interesting' if not fun

Pink Floyd 1967 at the Roundhouse in London would most certainly have been a life-changing experience

Arthur - who did Japan support at the Coatham Bowl? I saw them in 1981 at Leeds Tiffanys, they were great.

What gigs do I wish I was at? Well, there's 1000's but limiting it to when I actually had an interest in going to gigs then 3 stand out. The Sex Pistols & The Clash both at The Rock Garden. And The Heartbreakers with Siouxsie & The Banshees & The Models in The Crypt. Since then I've seen pretty much everyone I've wanted to.

Not sure Dave I have been wracking my brain since I saw this thread. It thought it must have been about August/Sept 78. If so it may have been Ultravox as they played there in Sept 78 but the list I looked at shows Blitzkreig Bop supporting them that night. Not sure thats correct though as I dont remember them supporting and I would have as my mate was playing with them around that time. Or it could have been Shangai which was a possibility as that was earlier in the year. I do remember that they played Don't Rain on My Parade and mentioned it as a single. It was released in March 78. I may have the ticket somewhere or half the ticket as they ripped them in two in those days.

Saw your three stand out gigs and all were great except the sound was poor for The Clash IIRC. Made up for it in atmosphere though. The Heartbreakers with Siouxsie & The Banshees & The Models in The Crypt was one of many brilliant shows in The Crypt but Wow what a show it was. Some of my mates who never grasped punk hated it. Me it was life changing even though I was 23/24 then.

Just remembered Nils Lofgren at Coatham Bowl is one I missed every time he played. It only says one on the list below but there was definitely more. Although I have seen him would have liked to have seen him play there.

Think I caught about 60-70% of the bands listed here for Coatham Bowl. Tailed off a bit after I started working offshore in 1989.

EDIT: side note on Nils Lofgren. I saw an interview with him once and when asked his favourite venues in the world he said there was two. I think one was a place in Berlin the other was The Coatham Bowl. He would wander around town buying stuff and pop into the Hydro for a beer. I was away but my mate had a good chin wag with him there.

Japan played at the Coatham Bowl?!

I was supposed to be seeing The Lemonheads for the first time this week and was really looking forward to it (and support band Heyrocco who I last saw in a pub in Boro as part of the first Twisterella line up 8 years ago!). Sadly I have Covid so that was the end of that. 😔

I certainly saw him there more than once. Loved him.
