Gibson's £3m pub

I was thinking about this whilst watching Grand Designs last night. Even the most complex, massive structure costs in the region of £1-2 million to build (lighthouses in Devon apart) once they've acquired the land (which he obviously has).

So either Gibbo's private pub is the size of a small county, which isn't going to make for an intimate evening with his mates, or that number is massively inflated.

Surely it depends on the type of internal fixtures and fittings that are to be included, kitchen equipment, flooring, carpeting, bar layout and quality of materials etc. I doubt he is a man to scrimp and look for savings to save a few bob. If it is for business as well as private social functions, he will want people to be impressed. I don’t think those figures are too high personally, given the purpose intended. Johnson spent £200K just wallpapering a room

Exactly , what the hell is he building? He must be going for a massive weatherspoons vibe.

I do find it a bit odd. I mean converting your shed in to a bar is one thing but that doesn't actually replicate going to the pub, does it? One of the best things about going to the pub (apart from a good pint) is watching the world go by.

As I say I'm basing it purely on Grand Designs, my wife's interior design magazines which I'll often browse through, and my own knowledge of renovating a house (albeit to a slightly lower standard than Gibson's)

Of course there's opportunities to go crazy, and he could well spend that amount, but even then you're going to have to go some to spend £3m on what you assume is a kitchen and dining room.

Exactly, I always think that when people make a "pub" at the end of the garden. It's completely different from a pub, unless you're going to invite a load of random people into your shed every time you go down there.

Oh my gosh I'm just a poor, working class lad from Blue Hall (now known as Norton Grange) who was the product of a solo mum. But I've got a bar in my man cave, along with a pool table, dart board, fug off stereo, pinball machine, bar football table, big TV screen and other additions. Does that mean I'm gunna be criticised for not just going down't pub like I used too?
Seems a lot of petty jealousy on here, and I'm sure those critics wouldn't like anybody telling them what they should or shouldn't be spending their money on, or criticising them for the spending decisions they make.
But as others have said, I don't find the hunting aspect particularly pleasant, if that is the case.

I love pubs, but wouldn't want one at home. Each to their own.
The football must be flat if we're talking about Gibson's pub.

Or he’s extravagantly fitted it out, with gold leaf wallpaper and Italian marble floors, or a mixture of all the above

How much did it cost ya?

Yeah, but they do that plenty of that on Grand Designs and they still dont spend £3 million.

It's presumably a industrial kitchen, coupled with a dining room and bar - He'd have to have solid gold beer pumps to be spending £3m on that.

In isolation I don’t think this is what’s bothering people.

People are more bothered that he’s forgotten his roots, the company he keeps, the selflessness of saving the club has been replaced by a selfishness in upgrading the posh parts of the stadium seats and new lounge but not for the plebs.

He was one of those plebs once, avoiding streams of hot steaming pish running down the Holgate terrace.

He was once one of those poorish people who had to grind for a living, now he’s involved with chancers that from a certain perspective could be said to be stealing from the poor to give to the rich.

His moral about turn is what bothers people.

Spending frivolous amounts of money to presumably have a private area to entertain chancers like the local Tory mob and allegations of killing wild animals for fun just strengthen that rift between who he was and who he is.

There’s nothing wrong with personal achievement, making money or growing as a person from who you were as a youth……but there is when it’s at the expense of regressing morally.

Not really sure anyone is making an issue?
So why make up the stuff about the deer?

His land no doubt has deer on it without him "introducing" them, I've seen them on the open land near where I live on the outskirts of Darlington, I've had one end it all on the front of one of my cars near Piercebridge. There are hundreds of the fkkers round abouts.
and will have organised shoots and hunts.
...and this bit you just pulled out of your head.
