First time you had a Donner Kebab?

From this place in the 90's when I was staying in South Kensington. Every Friday night after falling out of the Zetland.

I was working in London and staying with my brother in law on Onslow Gardens. His wife was still living up here and we were two men behaving badly. People used to come from miles around to go there.

The last time I passed, it looked like a right sh1thole.

Nah mate, probably exactly the same just like some of the lasses you were in there with seemed beauty’s at the time……Get’s tin hat out.

I've only ever had one. Boozy night in Redcar and bought one on the way to the station. It was huge. Walked to the station , waited for the train. Travelled to Boro. Walked to the Mad House.
I was still eating it. Had to chuck the rest away.

My dad used to work on a kebab van sure it was a converted ambulance and used to park up in Normanby so we used to get them for free as a kid. I will be talking possibly mid to late 80s

1970 just off Tottenham Court Rd. First time working away as a kid. My favourites were probably those Turkish ones in Berlin. Same meat (elephant's leg) but served in a stottylike bread

That’s right it was an old ambulance. Did your dad spare you from the agony of the hot chilly sauce. Many times I had to hold a cold pint of milk to my lips to try and take the pain away after eating one walking home. You think I would’ve learned my lesson after the last one but they where just so nice after a night out.

I must admit although I travelled a lot including to sunny Turkey, there’s nothing better than Boro Donner Kebab. I think the first time I ever had a Boro kebab was down outside the Madhouse way back when things were good in just about everything you ate…

Where I live in NW London, a fantastic kebab shop opened a few years ago. Unfortunately they decided to start selling fried chicken as well. Teenagers used to go in and order wings etc and just throw the bones and crap on the street so, understandably, there were complaints from the locals. The shop put out bins etc but the toe rags still dumped stuff on the street. A former well known Labour Spin Doctor went out one night and tore the teenagers off a strip. After that his front garden became the place for them to dump their crap. It ended up turning into a coffee shop.

I always had a parmo on a nite out in Redcar when I was a lad , must have had a kebab but I can't remember when.First one I definitely remember is when I moved to London and was living near Bayswater, it was an Egyptian kebab with glorious marinated chicken pieces roast in a clay oven with a gorgeous yogurt topping. It must be at least 30!years since I had my last parmo, I don't remember what they were like as I only ever had one usually after coming out of a club at 2-3 am in the morning.

Blimey, they used to be part of the weekly ritual, but I can't remember the last one, probably when I left London in about 2005. The worst one was a microwaved thing bought from Tesco - absolutely minging. I ate it just before we set off on a golfing holiday to Scotland in a caravan, which was a little insensitive to my fellow travellers.

Imagine waking up one morning to find your front garden has turned into a coffee shop.

A Kebab shop in Tooting Bec.

I remember the grease running down my arm from my hand as I ate it on the hoof. I quite liked the kebab though.
