First FA cup memories

Inspired by another thread on whether todays game is worth watching, I thought I’d make a thread on your first memories.

Mine is Wimbledon beating Liverpool in ’88.

Lawrie Sanchez nodding in a Dennis Wise cross. Dave Beasant brilliantly saving a John Aldridge penalty.

A year later saw Liverpool beat Everton 3-2 in a classic. Not a bad introduction.

I'm sure I remember some lad going on Jim'll Fix It being involved in making the match ball and delivering it to Wembley by helicopter. I'm not 100% but I think the ball went flat and had to be replaced.

Arsenal v Man U 1979. First FA Cup I watched (from when Man U were 2-0 down). Back to 2-2 then Alan Sunderland's last minute winner.
Mine was a year later, Trevor Brooking scoring the only goal and winner in a Aresnal v West Ham final. Whenever I occasionally watch the Big Match revisited on ITV 4 and West Ham are on Brooking always seems to play a blinder. A very good player.

Southampton v Man U - bobby stokes.

Loved it and all the way up to early nineties really, then children and marriage came along and just didn’t watch the all day thing but still watched the games.

Final - Probably Chelsea v Leeds 1970 is my first vivid memory and recall being very disappointed the replay wasn't at Wembley so I could go through it all again.

Boro - Derrick Downing's diving header v West Ham.

My first FA Cup Final memory was 1987 with Spurs v Coventry. Sat watching the game with my late Dad and remember being enthralled by the final which was admittedly one of the greatest of all. I also remember I missed the 1988 final as I went swimming with friends instead and could't believe it when I got out of the sports centre and people were saying Wimbledon had won.

Three stand out for me, not sure of the order and memory faded a bit

First final I remember seeing was Wimbledon beating Liverpool.

Also remember seeing MOTD as Sutton utd beat some big club in 3rd round in a yellow kit on a very muddy pitch. Think might have been Coventry.

Then there is Boro v Everton , we appeared to play them in a number of replays, a return leg under the lights at Ayresome, was not at the game but listening to it on the radio at home. I had to turn it off for bed with minutes remaking as past my bed time , at this point 2-1 behind … as getting ready heard the might raw of a late late equaliser from my bathroom whilst brushing teeth. Think a Parky scream top bin

1973 - Leeds v Sunderland (I’d want them both to lose now and can’t remember who I wanted to win at the time).

Remember it because we went to a friends house so we could watch it in colour.

Birmingham away 1975 quarter final. My first ever away match as a 9 year old. I remember my Dad and his mates commenting after the game how that was our big chance to win the cup and I remember how gutted they all were walking back to the car. Nearly 50 years later and I now know all too well that feeling.

Man united vs Everton 1985 was the first one I really remember, I assume I watched the 84 final but it doesn’t stand out. The 86 final was the first one I was properly immersed in and watched all the build up after going out in the morning to play cup final cuppy with my mates.
