Few lessons here .. namely a lack of pace

Being so so reliant on three players for any genuine pace in a squad is a bit of an issue.

Also , HH and MR need a boot up the arss the level of jogging / stood still if something doesn't quite pan out for them.

Too many mistakes at the back, we got away with it in the 1st leg, with their poor finishing, and we get away with it most weeks in the Championship, but we are not good enough to play that way against premiership quality players.

Let's get it right it was always going to be very very difficult but half of the team we managed to put out are nowhere near at full fitness. Crooks, Howson, Hackney, Forrs, Rav, Clarke (to a certain extent) never mind those on the bench like Coburn O'Brien Dijksteel, McNair. Add that to those who couldn't play at all. Dieng, Smith, Ayling, Lenihan, Bangura, Jones, Mcgree, Silvera, Lath, Greenwood, Azaz. We had no chance really as we couldn't play the shape we wanted and had no pace so no threat of us getting in behind them.

Don’t be daft. We were outclassed by a top half Premier League team with numerous injuries limiting our options. Hackney and Rogers would love to have played in a cup final even if they did have half an eye on a move. I’d have a forward putting goals away and playing poorly over one playing well and not scoring any day of the week.

The thing is the passing from the back clearly wasn't working. However even if the lads at the back looked up there was no one for them to hit the ball into the channels for to try and stretch the game and get Chelsea turned, we needed latte lath. Going into the season with only two strikers was criminal.

I said weeks ago that clarke and engel cant play together in a back 4 theres not enough pace to recover and its a massive vulnerability even in the championship. We need to get fry and vdb as the two centre backs and bench clarke.

I would agree but carrick prefers a back 4. if we have a back 4 it cant include clarke and engel
