Female Referee for us today

I could be wrong but I think this is a first in a Championship game for us.

She seems to have had a good wrap generally from other games she has had from what I have read.

She hails from Washington, so no doubt the conspiracies will start if things dont go a certain way.

It’s not right that any rival team should be allowed to ref. As it does bring their impartiality into question especially when they are also in the same league.

I see your point, but she's a female referee taking charge of her third (I thought it was her first, but she refereed Birmingham v PNE in January and WBA v Wigan in March!) Championship game. I highly doubt she'd want to torpedo her career by making any controversial calls.

It's a shame I've even had to post that, but it's the sad reality. She's going to be criticized by certain sections of supporters no matter what.

Referee making controversial decisions, now that would be a first.

Good luck to her, I am sure she will do well today and throughout her career.

I don’t it’s nonsense. Should we avoid players who grew up in the catchment area of a “rival”? Maybe even, shock horror, supported them? There’ll probably be a couple starting today. Do we get rid in case they lose on purpose? Of course we don’t. So why don’t we apply the principle to players? Because it’s bollix that’s why.

Its her third game, she also refereed WBA v Wigan in March. I have no issue with her being female, but coming from Washington, the game after that Sunderland game is poor from the EFL, It leaves her wide open to criticism, impartial or not. That said, I trust a female to be more impartial than a male or even an alien like Geoff Etherington.

Yeah, after Googling I realised it'll be her third Championship game. Her previous two seemed to be incident free so I have no reason to think there'll be any issues today.

(Ironically this will be the 3rd Birmingham match she's refereed!)

A ref criticised? by partisan supporters.. who would have thought it?

Equality rules she is judged just the same as the male refs.

Hope no controversial decisions & Importantly she can keep up with play..

Good luck to her. It’s not an easy job being a football referee.

As for Washington. I have no issue with a North East woman doing well. She might not even be a Sunderland fan!

She’ll either be good or bad; same as any other referee, and in the eyes of supporters good/bad is entirely subjective usually depending on the result. Except for Keith Stroud, he’s just incompetent.

It's her job, her bread and butter. Her dream should be to referee the FA Cup final, the World Cup final. Do people honestly think she is going to jeopardise that so early in her career by making biased decisions against a team just because they beat her local team, who she might not even support? Mental.
