Favourite Scottish Boro Player

Souness for me but I would of loved to see Bobby Murdoch in red n white at his peak.

No mention of stephen mcmanus, i guess he did play for us when we werent fantastic. Derek Whyte would probably come to mind first with regards to Riverside era centre halves (although he did play at Ayresome)

Just been away in Scotland and while I was there we had the tragic death of Dave Shearer.
It got me thinking about great Boro Scots over the years - Souness and Murdoch from Charlton Champions, Willie Whigham attracted several coach loads to from north of the border to watch his debut. Bernie Slaven played for Ireland but penned a "come and get me" letter to all the English clubs before becoming a Teesside legend. There was Barry Robson scorer of a Boxing Day blaster, from the Strachan "select." Local lad James Morrison of course went on to gather many Scotland caps.
But who was your favourite?
Eddie Connachan used to be very obliging with an autograph if you knocked on his door on Trimdon Avenue.

Probably Johnie Hendrie on the wing/through the centre/on the edge of his own penalty area, about to take on the entire Millwall team.

Bernie is a close second.
I don't think I saw Hamilton at his best, but I have a few memorable goals to remember him by.

Best
Bernie Slaven
Souness
Hugh McIlmoyle
Don Masson
Gary Hamilton
Bobby Murdoch
John Hendrie

Slightly before my time but my dad always said Ian Gibson was a good player.

Worst
George Kinnell
Kevin Thomson
Kris Boyd

It was great watching Bobby Murdoch and Graeme Souness in Jack Charlton’s promotion season, but Willie Whigham was a one-off and for service to Boro gets my vote.
[Edit: we could have done with Bernie Slaven last season though - what a finisher]

We've had some excellent Scottish players represent the mighty Boro

Graeme Souness
Bobby Murdoch
Gary Hamilton
Willie Falconer
Bernie Slaven
Barry Robson
Tony McAndrew
Johnny Hendrie

Managers - Bruce Rioch

No doubt I've missed a few

I started going to watch Boro around 92-94 I think. John Hendrie was my first favourite player so would definitely be him.

Too young for Souness or Slaven. Robson was the only other good Scottish player we've had. Morrison is definitely not Scottish, or at least wasn't when he played for us so he doesn't count.

Good call with Rioch as the manager. His physio could be the late great Jimmy Headridge. His assistant could be Jack Charlton's right hand man Ian MacFarlane.

How Scottish was Brucie? Manager when I started following, and I took it on trust he was a Scot becuase everyone said so, but he didn't sound Scottish. Was he more in the Morrison category?

How many Scotland caps would Hendrie have gotten had he played in latter year? Unbelievable he never got called up.

I remember lots of fans who kept saying Kevin Thomson "just needed a run of games" to come good. This never transpired and he was average at best (that's being very kind) on the rare occasions he did play.

Hendrie and Slaven for me. Crazy they couldn't get a Scottish cap at the time, they'd be key players these days.

Souness is the best Boro player I've ever seen, so it is fairly straightforward.
Murdoch would be next. They are head and shoulders the best two Scottish footballers to have played for us.

Bernie was an excellent player but not close.
Hendrie and Hamilton themselves would laugh to be in the same discussion, very good players as they both were.

Slaven (like the majority of that Republic side... 'not Irish' 😂)

I thought Barry Robson was a terrific signing. Arguably the only one of the Strachan spell.

Gary Hamilton does a little shimmy, the Middlesbrough fans go absolutely wild. Loved him. Great to see him in so many replies.I sold him some nappies once at a supermarket I worked at. Also John Hendrie and Bernie.
