i remember watching the 1st over then going to bed. woke up in the morning thinking aussies would still be in and england were over 150 for 0. happy days!!Boxing Day Test 2010, first day and still 'celebrating' Christmas - Aussies all out for 98.
Yes of course he has bowled superbly since, he went on to be the greatest spin bowler of a generation. I was speaking in the context of it being very early on in his test career and his first ever ball in his first ever ashes series. It was incredible and as someone who loves his cricket, I genuinely hadn’t seen anything move like that before, I doubt even the late great Eddie Leadbeater could have done anyhing remotely like thatSeriously Warne himself bowled balls that moved further than that though, and took wickets with them. There was something about the occasion itself though, and the fact it was against a returning but ring-rusty England batting legend, who shouldn’t have got back in the team really. It was a significant moment but I’ve always thought “ball of the century” is going a bit far.
Gotta be Stokes at Headingley. I was lucky enough to be there that day and the day before.
My “I was there” moment.
Amazing innings and incredible tension. The Lyon’s fumble. The poor reviews and missed chance for a wicket because the Aussies had wasted their reviews. Just incredible.
Not only were the Aussies all out for 98 but England ended the day 170-1. I can say I was there too!Not mentioned yet? Boxing Day Test 2010, first day and still 'celebrating' Christmas - Aussies all out for 98. Also remember in 1998 (?) getting up to see a rare England win, with a Goughie hat trick, he was one of my sporting heroes at the time, less enamoured with him these days!
Yeah I was being a bit silly cos the 90s were awful.See my mention of Goughie’s hat trick. Aussies were phenomenal in the 90s, remember watching in awe as Gilchrist tore appart our bowling attack of Craig White, Cork and Caddick in 2001. Made 2005 all the more satisfying.
