Fabio Rochemback

I remember getting the train back after a game we'd won and Rochemback had scored and being told repeatedly how bad Rochemback was. Fortunately the individual got off at Thornaby but that was a very long ten minutes.

Rocky was definitely a marmite player. I loved him but as others have said plenty didn't.

Possibly part of the problem was he was seen as a Zenden replacement and a Brazilian wearing the number 10 shirt. I think some therefore expected him to be a "number 10" type attacking midfielder, which he wasn't but continued to judge him as one. He wasn't running at people and getting into the box, so not doing his job was maybe part of the thinking.

He was a much deeper lying player more in the style of a Xavi, Pirlo or an Alonso. Fantastic technique, touch and a brilliant range of passing. He could completely control the tempo of a game when on song, in a way few players can. Certainly not players playing for a club like ours. A thinking man's footballer if you like.

Yeah, probably a bit overweight and reportedly a bit unprofessional at times off the field. But I loved watching him play. If he was perfect, with his ability, he wouldn't have been here.

Agree with all of this. Mind you, his free kicks were usually awful.

He simply never lost the ball. He could take the ball when surrounded and still find a pass. One of our greats in my opinion.
