Fabio Rochemback

Christ, imagine being able to sign players of that calibre again. Delighted we had him but tinged with regret that we'll likely never shop in that market again.

Great player, always offered for the ball and never hid. Kept us ticking and knew how to feed Alves and could pick the pass (only one who did and could). Ludicrous decision to get rid of him from a football viewpoint. Maybe financially we had to but it scuppered Alves’s chances of being better for us.

still Gary O’Neil types eh?

No matter how many times Rocky did the no look pass you knew the opposition would fall for it.
The thing is, the Brazilian leagues must be full of such players and it'd be nice to think we could find someone who'd bring that sort of presence and ability to our midfield.
You look at a lot of the Brazilians we've had or who've played for other teams and you can see that they are suited for the physicality of the English game so it amazes me that more clubs don't look for players over there.

Many a time I've told this tale but here goes anyway.......

The Mrs had corporate Wembley tickets for the FA Vase final that day and as I had never been to the new Wembley jumped at the chance to be wined and dined. I remember having Jeff Stelling on the tele in the box and they just kept going to Boro for another goal and my phone pinging constantly with texts from the lads who were at the game, followed by answerphone messages stating something about sticking Wembley up my rear end and we want 9!!!!

I doubt I will ever get the chance to see Boro win 8-1!!!

I think it’s the fact that they either had to be full internationals or have European ancestry to qualify for a work permit. Plenty do but I’m not sure if that route is even possible now that we’re out of the EU.

A lot of them end up coming via Portugal as the rules are relaxed there and they can quickly gain citizenship too due to their colonial history.

Can't get the work permits isn't it? I think it's easier for teams in Italy and Spain. **** knows how we got de la Pena though. Spanish passport?

I’m sure you have gone over and over in your mind that at least you were there to enjoy Kirkham and Weshams greatest ever day. Whoever they are.

I seem to recall Buxton were playing in one of the games as one of the people was a fan.

When he was on song he was unreal but far too often he went absolutely missing in games.

I don't think our formation at that time particularly helped him either, always looked much better in a midfield 3.

I believe his total lack of professionalism off the pitch was the reason we let him go rather than his ability on it. I couldn't argue with that at the time and still can't to be honest. Same with Cattermol.

I've always felt the keeper should have had this. Good strike though.
The keeper saw it coming. He's trying to get an extra man in the wall but is being ignored. He's back and forth along the line nervous as hell cos his instinct tells him what Spike is going to do but his training is telling him to guard the far post.

Italian I think. Same as Juninho.
I thought Juninho was a legit work permit each time apart from when on loan, then some useless ex-FA bloke said he would walk to Boro to watch him, so he should be given an exceptional circumstances one (yes I know his name, but refuse to type it)

Marinelli was the one on Italian passport I think

Defo, Juninho didn't have an EU passport. Emerson did, which is how he got to play here despite having no caps.
