F.A. Cup Draw

Happy enough with Spurs at home but would have preferred Liverpool, Chelsea or Man City.

My logic for playing the bigger clubs in the earlier rounds is that it will probably mean a sell-out crowd, and if we then go on to draw say Luton at home in the quarters, it will likely be a sellout. If we'd drawn Luton at home this round I don't think we'd have had a crowd much higher than 20k.

It's going to be a tough ask against Spurs but you just never know.

It was going to be a tough ask when we seen the team sheet united put out along with the fact it was their only chance of silverware.. we did it, we done the unthinkable.. let's go again 👍

Dont think we should be too open vs spurs. Need to stop their counter and make it hard to break us down. Go forwards in spells with good dedensive structure. Id actually pl

Joe Lumley - Spurs Academy released at 15yo 2010
Grant Hall - Ex Spurs 2012-15

Aaron Connolly - scored two goals against Spurs on his first start for Brighton

Marc Bola ex Arsenal
Folarin Balogun Arsenal

Lets not forget, we drew 0-0 two years ago..

I said that in the last round when all the big boys got home draws against smaller clubs, I definitely think this is not random. Needs investigating!
Paddy Power put a tweet out on Sunday morning before the draw saying something along the lines of, the only point of a draw is to see if Man City get Peterborough home or away :)

Spurs at home is terrible draw, a big team who need to win a trophy and will be going for it.
A bit like Manchester United then!

As much as I like the mindset of trying to win the FA Cup, we're a million miles away from that level. Even if we got a few lucky draws we'd end up with a big side in the semi final or final.

Spurs are still beatable though, we draw with them at home in the Cup a few years ago and if that happened this time we could end up going through on penalties again. So I'm excited for it, main focus is the league anyway so as long as we put up a good battling performance I'll be happy with any result.

Why do they need to win a trophy any more than any other team? They were saying this about Man U on the telly the other night, how they need to win a trophy. If they need to win a trophy that much, what happens when they don't?

Millwall FC have a fantastic attitude towards the fa cup, in recent years Millwall have featured in a lot a semi finals and a final. Are Millwall bigger than us.

Wigan won the fa cup in 2013, again are Wigan bigger than us.

I don’t think we are a million miles away at all. We are at the business end of the competition now. Beat Spurs and we are 1/4 finalists.

All of this lets give Conte a clap because he clapped the Boro fans when we got relegated, is just wrong. It is his PR machine working overtime. poch when he was the Spurs manager said we have loud fans. It is reverse psychology. We need the riverside to be a horrible hostile crowd for the spurs game, I don’t think the Millwall fans would clap a spurs or Chelsea boss? Not a chance.

In the last 20 years Millwall have made 1 final (in 2004), 1 semi final (2012) and 2 quarter finals (2017 and 2019) (counting both fa and league cups). In the same time Middlesborough have won 1 trophy, made a European final, 1 semi final (2006) and 6 quarter finals (2007, 2008, 2009, 2013, 2017 and 2019). They hardly have an exceptional record in the cups.

The year Wigan won the FA Cup they were in the Premier League and had been in the Premier League for 7 seasons. They were ahead of where we are now. It's not about who is or isn't a bigger team, it's about the ability in the side. Clearly a Premier league side is going to be more capable than a Championship side. Hence why our record in the cups has been better when we were in the Premier League than when we were out of it.

It would be great if we could progress further and amazing if we could make a final. It would be an unbelievable achievement for a club in the position we are currently in. But I'm being realistic at where our club is. Almost all Premier League sides should be capable of beating us at the moment and let's be honest, the players won't be motivated in the same way they were on Friday night if they were up against Everton or West Ham.

Personally, I'm glad we aren't like Millwall are. I want teams to fear coming here because of the way we support our team and because the team works hard on the pitch, not because we act like thugs. With hooliganism on the ride across the country, I really think looking up to Millwall is absolutely the wrong way to go.

Errrrr .................... 2 semi finals, we played Arsenal in 2002. (y)

How do you look back for old threads? On one of the FA Cup posts before the draw where we got Man U I predicted that we'd get them at Old Traffic and beat them. Just can't find it when I go back through the many thousands of pages
