Diane Abbott says she’s barred from standing

The problem is, as it was under Corbyn's leadership, there are some vile MPs within the party who see their job as attacking the left, and if that means the party fails then so be it.
Depending on your point of view, there could be an argument that those on the far left of the party hold similar views re. attacking those who don't share the same political alignment.

They didn't do it through leaks to the right wing press, that's the difference, together with a host of false accusations.

Their behaviour when Corbyn was leader was abhorrent. Starmer hadn't had anything like that to put up with.

It's a different debate but I think the lack of decisive leadership was the main issue that allowed these and other matters to fester. See also Corbyn and Labour's feeble wishy washy response to Brexit at the time.

Many won't agree with that which is fine, I don't want to derail the thread.

It was the attempt to overlook factionalism and create a proper broad-church cabinet. The leadership was decisive it's just that the decisions, in hindsight, allowed the saboteurs free-reign.

The problem is that you can't have the progressive politics without the trust- they go hand-in-hand.
