Diane Abbott says she’s barred from standing

He interprets everything through a prism of starmer hatred. It's why it's impossible to have a reasoned discussion with him.
So give your interpretation of events and explain why none of the commentariat agree with it. Shami Chakrabarti has just reiterated that the leak came from Starmerites - but not from Starmer - on Kuenssberg and no-one disagreed with her.

On the balance of probabilities I'm going to stick my neck out and guess that people working in and around politics are more likely to be correct than Laughing and LessoftheLip - especially given the fact that LessoftheLip admits he has no interest in how lobby journalism works.

I'll ask you for the fourth time. Show something, anything, which infers or implies the briefing came from the Labour leadership team or anyone on the 'right' of the party. A tweet, newspaper report, blog post. Anything.

And have you ever considered, just for a moment, this is Murdoch trying to stir the pot and in fact there was never a briefing given.
Show you what? An MP, aide or party official spoke to a journalist off-the-record. All sides of the political commentariat are agreed that it came from the Labour right. They will have access to information we don't have and will have spoken with people involved.

If there was never a briefing given then why has no-one come out and said that?

If they lie about it they'll be called out - that's why.

Ms Abbott was disappointed to learn about stories leaked to the Telegraph by Ms Abbott, about Ms Abbott not being able to stand as a Labour candidate in the upcoming election.

I have no idea where the leak came from. I don't presume to know so refrain from speculating as it's pointless.

I am surprised starmer is even considering allowing her to stand as a Labour candidate she is incompetent.

From an opinion piece a few days ago by the Guardian contributor, John Crace.

"Only, Labour couldn't bear to keep things simple and dignified, so a party apparatchik briefed the Times that Abbott was barred from standing again".

Admittedly, it is only an opinion piece, but, I think John Crace is probably better informed than we are. I would hope so anyway and of course that horrible t**t Murdoch would use it to stir the pot, it's what he and his media outlets do.

Abbott, by all accounts, had arranged to stand down with some degree of dignity once the whip was restored. The row over the leak has taken that away from her and left Starmer in a difficult position.

His hand has been forced due to his lack of leadership skills and inability to control his own party. Deja vu?

There you go again. It's a childish interpretation.

Have a good day.

Explain what else might have happened then. You offer nothing and you don't say which part of the prevailing narrative you disagree with. Why engage with the conversation at all?

You regularly tell us that Corbyn's inability to control the factions of the party were an example of his lack of leadership and part of why, in your opinion, he was unfit to be PM. You don't want to apply the same standards to Starmer - I get that - but it comes across as very hypocritical.

Your last point is well made, something I have asked myself for weeks. Bye.

Right, I understand. Apologies for misinterpreting JVM's comment.

They're wide open mate. The Labour Party is transformed into a party ready to govern. For the 1st time in 15 years. It's no longer a party of protest for protests sake, often contradicting itself in the process. I think it's you who should wake up and smell the coffee.
I like a good kip and not keen on coffee, give me a cuppa any day. Oh and I’m not your mate

This is not rational behaviour. She needs help from people who have her health and best interests at heart. Possibly an intervention.

I'm not sure if that is real, but wouldn't be surprised if it was, and I've very little doubt it's what she thinks.

Either way though, she's lost the plot and lost all grip on reality, and loses it more and more each year, she's like the supposed left version of Trump.

Daft thing is, acting like this when you're on the right probably actually wins votes/ elections as the right is full of idiots and conspiracy nutters, so I can half understand why they do that. That's largely not going to work on the centre left/ centre though.

So ready to govern that they've managed to engineer a situation whereby a person they want to see the back of is now likely to be standing when they were preparing to retire.
Not only standing but given the full backing of the NEC and the leadership and the shadow cabinet and the ……

It's been verified that the tweet came from her account. Nick Eardley is a BBC journo and took a screen grab as soon as it was posted.

Needless infighting again.

Stop digging and the news cycle moves on, but petty little pops and briefing to the media are just keeping it alive.

Do you know what your stance on racism is yet?

She has called the leader a liar. She should be dumped. Not sure of the deadline for candidates but she is not helping anyone cause least of all her own.
Well only a day before the NEC announces a decision on her official canditure and my view is that they have no option but to anoint it.

A victory for Diane and all socialists in the party and outside it. Starmers plan to purge her has been thwarted and his general plan to purge the party of the left has taken a left hook to the temple. He needs the bell to give him a breather and regroup but he now knows how closely he is being watched.

Perhaps some re-assurance to all the naysayers on here that I am a member of labour,, card carrying, and will vote for the party in the GE.

I say to the mealy mouthed nay-sayers on here, if you were able to vote, would you back Diane at the ballot box as Labours official candidate for MP?
