Dele Ali

I’ve posted this before but one of my good mates - a Spurs fan - used to be Tottenham’s social media video person, directing and shooting content and interviews for their YouTube and in-house platforms. He used to travel all over with the team and the staff and said Dele was always absolutely sound, until the hype and attention got the better of him and he started attracting advertising deals and modelling contracts and eventually lost focus on the football. He apparently became a little arrogant and stopped putting the graft in, which wound up those that were grafting and being respectful.

It’s a shame to see him struggling though. He’s an incredibly talented player who’s actually had an excellent career already. You just want to see that sort of talent expressing itself for as long as possible, but it’s easier said than done isn’t it. Maybe his career at the top level is just done. It was short and yet very impactful. He doesn’t owe anyone anything.

Whatever happened to him? Might be worth a punt in the January window. Still only 26!
Only a boro fan could post an article about a player being subbed off and booed then suggest we sign him

Its fair to criticise his ability currently but the made up **** about him being a kn9b without merit isn't in my opinion.

Merry Christmas pal

It's how people present themselves through isn't it. He's rocked up at Everton, a working class club, in a rolls royce, dressed like he was dressed, as one of their top earners (100k/week)...

The clubs losing money and arguably on a downward slope...

Nothing against him doing it, but IF you're going to do it... you can't then half ar$e it on the pitch. It's about making better decisions. He's not a kid anymore.

Im trying to think of another player so highly rated who fell from grace so quickly (and has nothing to do with physical injury).

🤣 well to be fair it was in the aftermath of a game where having been one nil up our keeper commits two absolute howlers, followed by our captain scoring an own goal then our leading goalscorer missing a pen. Ali would fit in really well 😳

I genuinely feel sorry for him... Its clearly not an injury as he keeps playing, so it must be like a mental block for him.

I see a lot of people saying it could be attitude issues, but surely that would only be a temporary thing?... you wouldn't have them for years on end like he has... at some point you would think someone would intervene or the player himself would realise?

either way its not nice to watch a player suffer such a down turn in his career never mind one at such a young age.

I Hope he can get back on track and start enjoying the game again.

It's crazy to think he was starting in an England team which reached the semi-finals of the world cup just four years ago.

At one point it looked as though Rashford was going to go the same way but seems to have found himself again.

May just be that Ali needs to find the right manager who can help him but I don't see him ever fulfilling his potential now.

Balotelli? Although he was always one sandwich short of a picnic, even when he was good.
I went on a man city stadium tour which was great, and when they were in the dressing room they said if you look at the lockers they all have locks on them, they never used to and reason why is Balotelli when he would be subbed off and in a mood would storm off to the dressing room and then get other players phones and start sending texts out to girl friends, wives, mistresses and have fun stirring up **** and playing pranks while they were all playing, so they were forced to put locks on them all so he couldnt do it no more lol

That story sounds like bull****. Not from you I mean Muniz but from the tour guide.

I'm pretty sure that even back in Balotelli's day you could still pin protect your phone.

When he left Spurs he gave special thanks to Mauricio Pochettino.. nothing about Moutinho, Nuno or Conte.

Never really rated Lampard and the decision to move to Turkey is a strange one.

It must be really difficult to go out in every training session and game and pretty much start from scratch to prove yourself over and over and over again

That mental fortitude to want to improve every day is probably what separates the very best players from the rest.

I'm pretty sure once I was set for life I may well get a bit fed up of the whole professional athlete thing so I can understand if that is the case with Dele Ali.

If you coast in most jobs you can get away with it, if you coast as a professional sportsperson then it is going to be very noticeable.
Just reading Pat Nevin's book. He'd be an example of a real talent who kept the work ethic and constantly tried to improve when he was already sensational.
