Dele Ali

I suspect he's beyond redemption.
I can only think that depression is affecting him greatly. We’ve seen redemption from nearly every other issue affecting players, injuries, alcoholism, drug addiction.. the one that doesn’t often turn around is depression.

If Ravel Morrison can turn his career around at Derby and DC United.. then surely so can Dele Ali. I hope he gets the help he needs. Such a talented lad

Is he suffering from depression? Or has it been a chronic loss of form?

I know they have charmed lives but it can’t be easy going from golden boy to being not wanted either.

Football is, of course, absolutely ruthless. Think most players find it out a bit later in their careers than Dele but you can so quickly go from being a prize asset to a liability who everyone wants to wash their hands of. Can’t be a nice feeling, even if your own decisions/behaviour/mental state might have contributed towards it.

I feel for Dele, always liked him a lot as a player - spiky little maverick. Like someone said, he started in a WC semi final four years ago and was one of the best players in the Premier League at 20.

Someone else posted once that purely from a footballing point of view he doesn’t really have a position which fits the game now - he’s like a proper second striker, but isn’t quick and can’t play on the wings, or in midfield proper. He’s not even a traditional number 10.

Honestly, if his issue is that he’s just lost the love and is struggling with that, I hope for his sake that he retires and finds something to do that he loves. There shouldn’t be any shame in that, he’s already had a brilliant career.

Jadon Sancho’s issues seem more like family related but reading between the lines it sounds like he’s in a similar situation. United to their surprising credit are handling it with care, but it’s a funny situation where a £70m golden boy looks subdued and out of shape for a year, is removed from all first team duties in October, then is sent to the Nederlands to train for a few months, is not available to play but is not injured. Guess they’re both fascinating cases because they’re so young and so talented, and their struggles aren’t down to physical injuries.

Deli Ali and Jason Sancho on loan next season then? Chuba and Co can get your arms round them, Woodgate with his magic sponge and Carrick with hypnotic pocket watch!

His contract was doubled in 2016 and then doubled again in 2018. That's the problem...

If I was 20-22 years old, making £100,000 per week, living the life... I think I'd find it difficult to keep my head/motivation/whatever it is he's clearly lost too.
It's going to happen more and more with younger players in the future.
This is exactly what does, and always has, worried me about Foden. Once he loses a yard of pace when he reaches 27 or has any kind of notable injury you have to wonder if he will be able to maintain the level he’s hit so far and once you lose it, people don’t always just say “ok he’s not as good as he was but he’s still good”, they start chastising you for having a bad attitude of whatever.

Sometimes people fall off the ladder and need a big hand to get back on track .
I would be happy for Boro to give him that chance , no problem .
26 year old , all to play for , come and do it for Boro .
MC will know him and if he wants to give him a break , no doubt someone will , why not us .

Seen the work that Gazza, Baggio and Ronaldo had to go through to get back into the game after horrific injuries. Amazing!!

I wouldnt take him, not at the moment. He is hardly desperate to be getting his football back on track, he is on good wages so may not not feel the need to fight to resurrect his career, he has what he needs, come back to him in a year or most likely two then you may have a man with a hunger for the game again.

He was never a midfielder to begin with - not really, he never had the positional or defensive strength to play as an orthodox central midfielder

He was a 2nd striker who made runs into the box and had excellent timing and good finishing

Needs to play in a team as a 2nd striker in a certain style to pull it off

Bit like Chuba - lets be honest, Chuba can't pull off the lead striker role, playing him as the droppy offy number 10 has made him as a player

Could say that about dozens of players, you have to play them in a role that suit their attributes
