Defiant Putin warns the west: your sanctions are akin to an act of war

Surely people who have studied Russian politics for decades, often having lived in Russia whilst doing so, and people who have had first hand experience with Putin and his inner circle, are better qualified than us to give an educated opinion?
It's still an opinion on an individual, what those experts will tell you is that he is a game player, that he doesn't always say what he thinks or means, but rather what will get him what he wants. He is the only one that truly knows under what circumstances he would do it.

This.

Nuclear Winter is not even an agreed upon theory. You think Putin is not prepared for all out Nuclear War? You think the Oligarch's aren't? Are you one of them? Plenty of people think that the world would be more than habitable 1-3 years after nuclear war. Maybe not like we had it before but certainly liveable.

In one of my darker moments I saw the Aeroflot hostesses thing more as a selection of prescreened 'breeders' ready to head to Putin's retreat. Sorry if that alarms anyone.
Nuclear war retreat you say?

Look at New Zealand and it's bunkers.

Who knows what else he's capable of.
Back a rat into a corner and it'll turn on you.
But what choice do we have?
Sanctions are the right thing to do and I'm surprised and pleased of the way Western businesses have responded in effectively pulling out of Russia.

And not surprised that our government trail behind the EU in meaningful actions.
The fat mess once again embarrassing us.
I don't believe that is entirely accurate.

As this is not a Just War other countries should be able to aid Ukraine however they think is right, If as Russia claims it is a Special Operation it shouldn't require air strikes a no fly zone should be in place for military aircraft.

Western Politicians have basically turned their backs on the people of Ukraine. When this all kicked off we should have met force with force as well as pull the plug on Russian oil.

Russia’s alleged latest demands on Ukraine

  • Cease military action
  • Change its constitution to enshrine neutrality
  • Acknowledge Crimea as Russian territory
  • Recognise the separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk as independent territories

If this is a genuine true report of their demands, I am guessing the sanctions are hurting and money is in short supply and he is looking for a way out to claim victory. This is the Cyprus type option. They also demand no joining the EU, not just NATO

Report stated:-

Russia has issued a list of demands for Ukraine to follow if its invasion is to come to an end.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov gave Moscow's most explicit statement so far of the terms it wants to impose on Ukraine to halt its "special military operation", which is now in its 12th day.

Pesko said Ukraine must:

  • Cease military action
  • Change its constitution to enshrine neutrality
  • Acknowledge Crimea as Russian territory
  • Recognise the separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk as independent territories.
The outlining of Russia’s demands came as delegations from Russia and Ukraine prepared to meet on Monday for a third round of talks.

Peskov said that, if those conditions are met, Russia's military action will halt "in a moment".

He added: "They should make amendments to the constitution according to which Ukraine would reject any aims to enter any bloc. This is possible only by making changes to the constitution."

  • Cease military action NOPE
  • Change its constitution to enshrine neutrality NOPE
  • Acknowledge Crimea as Russian territory NOPE
  • Recognise the separatist republics of Donetsk and Lugansk as independent territories NOPE, but this is the only demand that might get some traction, but not at the demand of russia
I think you are right it is hurting them. Ruble has lost half it's value nearly in a week, MOEX has been shut for 10 days and will 'rectify' whenever they decide to open it. Their army is taking a pummelling, it's clear already that they cannot take Kyiv without pounding it into rubble, then their is no functioning city to instal a puppet government in. they can't hold the country or even just Kyiv with their army. The young russians will be in uproar over losing all the web services they are used to, the old people have seen their savings lose most of their value in a week, the military are in dismay. Action has been taken to clean up oligarch money laundering and Putin's personal fortune is under threat.

Whatever Putin imagined from this war, it wasn't this. He probably expected to steam into Kyiv in 3 days with minimal losses and economic sanctions to be negligible, instead he got mired in an unwinnable war, russias international standing trashed, investment gone, economy crumbling. He's over reached badly and I can't see how he can personally survive this
