Defiant Putin warns the west: your sanctions are akin to an act of war

yup, if he pulls out, he shows weakness and he's done for
if he keeps murdering sanctions will be longer and deeper
if he keeps taking rights away from the people, there will be a revolt

He's massively over reached, and is desperate for a way out now. I think he'll pull back to the 2 eastern provinces, and claim that is all he wanted. But he'll scorch as much as possible first. This means sanctions will be kept in place, and Ukraine will be added to the EU and Finland and Sweden to NATO. A truly terrible result for russia
I think Russia will end up settling for the 2 Eastern regions and a land connection with Crimea.
Even if the dictator is overthrown I think a successor will keep those areas.
Hopefully Putin's days are numbered.
The dictator's army is weak - and only making the limited progress it is through numbers. It doesn't care how many Russian conscripts are killed.
Slowly but surely it's power will begin to start slipping away....

That's the headline but he went on to say thankfully it isn't actual war. and there in lies the key. HE knows his army would be obliterated in a conventional war withing 3 days, his power would collapse and he would be ousted.

In an unconventional war, 99% of russians would be dead.

He's playing the hardman, but deep down he's just a common bully, and bullies are almost always that way because they know they are weak people.
Boromart, I enjoy reading your posts from the Boro to politcs, as you come across as a quite knowledgable poster, I do hope your right on this mind

The T**T is desperate to start a third world war. Hope Sweden and Finland get into NATO ASAP.
Nah, he's a merely a desperate man as the sanctions are biting hard and he knows now that it will be a long drawn out battle with Ukraine as they clearly didn't $hit themselves and roll over, neither did the Pro Russians and those without the stomach overthrow their leaders.

Ergo his country will be brought to it's knees by the sanctions BEFORE he conquers Ukraine enough for him to significantly fear his own people rising against him.

So he responds with the only real threat he had, repeated, to stop the west getting involved in the first place militarily speaking.

Entirely predictable.

Unfortunately what else is entirely predictable given these circumstances is that he will also be going hell for leather to force Ukraine to give up as soon as possible, ie indiscriminate bombing to fu(k of their cities as we have seen recently. Expect far more of this.

His gross miscalculation of the fight in the people of Ukraine is the deciding factor here. While his reasons to him at least in invading Ukraine had logic to them and were a calculated risk, he is realising now that his calculations were well off the mark and is getting desperate.

This could end in a good way, ie convince those capable of putting him out of the picture once and for all in his own country to act OR they could end in increasing desperation which doesn't bode well for a great number of people.

Sadly in all this the ordinary Ukrainian people and also those in Russia will suffer.
Meanwhile a few of Putin's close allies may lose 50% of their wealth and still live a comfortable life.

What about a column of tanks 30km long - is that an act of war ?
It is, but not with the UK. Every time a war starts somewhere in the globe, we can not send UK troops in to battle. When that aggressor turns out to be a nuclear state then you also need to be aware that in doing so, you are risking being mutually destructed. Not a sensible decision to take.

Risking a nuclear war with a madman has to be a last resort as it means likely that you, me and most on the board will die along with our kids and grandkids. The UK would be a soulless worthless piece of land for years to come. The only solution is either Putin being removed internally or him being given a way out diplomatically. Their is a third possible option, but nobody in the UK wants to think about that.

Who knows what else he's capable of.
Back a rat into a corner and it'll turn on you.
But what choice do we have?
Sanctions are the right thing to do and I'm surprised and pleased of the way Western businesses have responded in effectively pulling out of Russia.

And not surprised that our government trail behind the EU in meaningful actions.
The fat mess once again embarrassing us.

yes. My point was sanctions being an act of war is debatable. A column of one country's tanks in another country is not.
On another point I thought nations avoided a formal declaration of war because of legal implications. In the Russia Ukraine case I don't if there has been any formal declarations.

Sanctions are our beat chance of a good outcome, as things get worse for the Russian people a coup may just happen.
The rich people who run Russia won't actually want to live there
