Defacing the Cenotaph and Churchill statue

I didn’t make my point very well, for which I’m sorry.
Just to be clear, my post was in response to the police tweet denying the social media posts regarding the cenotaph, which was the attention grabbing title of this thread.

I am not condoning graffiti, violence, vandalism etc. And I am not denying it happened - the police did that.

Any graffiti or damage to any monument is of course disgraceful, disrespectful and just completely idiotic.
Anybody guilty should be found and punished.

However appalling such acts of stupid vandalism and graffiti are, they will be an absolute minority act of a few idiots amongst thousands of peaceful protesters.
(Some opportunist organisations even seek to exploit peaceful protests for their own ideological gains and the vandals have nothing to do with the protest occasionally - not saying that is the case here but it’s worth being aware of.) Some social media organisations seek to exploit such idiotic behaviour to drive their message and unfortunately it often works -
I’ve seen social media posts calling for military to be put on the streets of London to use force and fight to shut down the ‘loony lefties’ and the ‘snowflakes‘. As if that is some sort of sensible solution?!?!

The message of the protestors gets lost and headline grabbing pictures of chaos and violence and destruction are used to paint a picture of the whole protest. Job done by those painting a picture, again.

To reiterate, graffiti and vandalism is disgusting and it needs to be punished, as It should here. But don’t get played and manipulated by those wishing to exploit it for their own political/ideological gains.

If you’ve not seen it already, I recommend The Great Hack on Netflix. It’s an eye opening documentary about data mining and social media manipulation of us all, for political gain.

Attention grabbing? The cenotaph in London was defaced yesterday. Regardless of the cause this is not on and there is no condoning it. None. It’s was built in memory of the hundreds of thousands of men and women who have died serving this country. Men and women, of all colours and religions.

And on the anniversary of D-Day. A day when the remaining few who fought in the Second World War could have visited and paid their respects to their fallen comrades. Some of them won’t get that chance again.

If you think I’m condoning it then you are seeing what you want to see.

At least we've got the 'footy lads' defending what they they believe to be a war memorial. Loads of them too, top boys indeed 🙆

It's sad when things get vandalised, there are grave yards up and down the country being damaged frequently as well, I guess it's just mindless people doing mindless things, we create the society we deserve.

In my opinion the best way to remember those who have lost their lives in any war including civilians who loose many more lives then the arm forces, is to have no more wars. The vast, vast majority of people in this world get innocently caught up or dragged into a dispute or a belief of a few.

Lay down our arms, stopped spending billions up billions on items that murder fellow humans, let's get rid of dictatorships and others not fit to govern and work together for the greatest good of mankind, what a truly fantastic world we could all live in. Hopefully if you say i am a dreamer, I hope I'm not the only one.

It's all well and good but how do you propose to you get rid of these dictatorships?

It's obviously very difficult but not impossible to make peaceful change. Governments only govern with the consent of their people unless the population is oppressed and or persecuted by and for the benefit of a select few.

Guess what those select few are propped up by the military, and who are they, yes the come in the main from the same groups of people and after having been broken down and brain washed by so a called duty and patroism, they turn their weapons on their own people or innocent people in other lands, following for the benefit of select few.

I suspect you might not like it but I think your answer is in there.

Crazy, we need people who lead us with humanity for the greater good and not self greed.

.

Where are these places you speak of? And what group do these people come from?

The Cenotaph will be cleaned

The issue of Racism will not be so easily resolved.

Not condoning vandalism, putting it in context. George Floyd is still dead the protests are to try to make sure he is the last. He probably won't be as long as people like you are more concerned about three letters on a piece of marble. Stay on message, do not be diverted. You are being played.

So you don't know? You just make it up as you go along?

How would I know for sure, just like you I don't know about every country in the world.

My logical view is that the military in almost every country if not them all is recruited from its general population, but more then happy to be corrected if in some cases this is not so.
