Deadline Day

"So we’d still like a bit more experience and a bit more know-how. The reason we’ve gone deep in is we believe something good will pop up. We’ve been aggressive in our approach and ambitious in trying to, but when nothing becomes available… If it doesn’t then we’ll go with what we’ve got.”

Pour yourself a 7:30pm Horlicks, run yourself a nice bath and have an early night tomorrow lads... here's everything you need to know on what will happen on deadline day.

Yeah I'm not writing us off. It just does feel like a big hill to climb already. We've made it hard for ourselves again. We might well get in the playoffs and might make top two.

But any new signings will require time to settle in. We've thrown away good money on loans before. If we are going to have a shot at promotion I'd prefer we do it properly and get signings in before the season, get a settled squad and take the risk out of it.

This half way house just costs us money for the following season while we have a galant push for 7th-10th

But as I’ve said this never happens.

Do it properly ???

I'm not sure it would be a good thing to spend any more. We're already a lot of points off an auto place.
The loans this season (Giles, Muniz) are dead money as they won't be here for a push next season. I'd prefer to keep the funds in the bank for a go next season. We have plenty to keep us up. We should be giving game time to permanent signings to have them ready for next season. And next season do the transfer window correctly.
We say the same every season - the time to get it right is now!

I think we're almost agreeing.
It doesn't happen - you are right. But it should. I'm not writing us off but I'm very flat about our prospects after having been really really positive before the window. Happens every year.

I think selling Tav without a replacement lined up when every other club held on to their assets even if they wanted to go (e.g. Larsen) was the point where I lost faith and became pessimistic about this year's chances.

I agree I’ve said numerous times losing tav completely scuppered us.

He was the fulcrum of the side - worst decision since bamford and for peanuts as well.

I Want Wilder to get his wishes but will be satisfied with either striker and midfielder, or 2 midfielders. I reckon we’ll end up splashing some big cash on someone not yet linked. I get that transfer deadline day means paying over the odds, but if that’s what we need to complete ‘Wilder’s team’ and get us challenging for promotion, then it will prove to be money well spent.

But we held on till now to make sure we got good deals and weren't pushed into paying over the odds.. Surely that means deadline day will be full of bargains

I'm fine if we don't bring in another striker, but we need another midfielder.

Howson's injury means we now have no options except for academy players/
Boyd-Munce and none of them are defensive midfielders.
Neither is Howson, tbf, I'm shocked we've left it this late to try and fill an obvious gap in our squad.

The whole thing smacks of doing it on the cheap with endless loans ( more to come) and no real structure or plan.

Keeper - loan
Striker - loan
Best creative outlet - loan
Midfield supply - loan

That’s not good
Looks like it doesn’t it - it would seem we’re going into the season once again without anyone with a proven track record for putting the ball in the net. Muniz looks good but to be relying entirely on him looks a gamble - Of the others, Forss looks like he could score goals at this level and indeed has, Akpom might be a useful foil for Muniz but he’s unlikely to weigh with lots himself. Hoppe is a very strange signing for me, surely one project striker was enough ? In midfield it’s obvious we haven’t replaced Tav, we desperately need someone with the energy he has. Of course we still may get a surprise and they deliver someone special but it’s looking unlikely this late. Disappointing, not only for the fans but for CW too. Annoying we haven’t really gone for it with a good manager in place after giving that fraud Monk a fortune to waste

You can’t keep a player who wants to leave - the real crime is not replacing him with a very good alternative. We’re two good midfielders and a striker who can get into double figures short of being in with a shout at top two. It’s disappointing that when we finally get a good manager in, it looks like we’ve not bothered to push the boat out and back him fully

I’m not saying don’t sell I’m saying sell on our time, we could have sold him today.

We sold him to benefit Bournemouth and tav nothing else he was still under contract we didn’t have to sell.

We had the power.

Midfield is key, need 1 or preferably 2.

Was really hoping for the Brentford guy. Horrible feeling we will instead get someone last minute who is not who we were after, and will do nothing for us, but we will be under pressure to play him. Similar to Connolly last season.
