Covid Jab invite...

Erm... No. They are advising not to travel and as you can see they are inviting people from far and wide to travel.

I'll wait for my GP to get in touch.

If they want to pay my travel costs there and back x2 and then I'll consider it.
You want the government to pay you the cost to travel for a potentially life saving injection?

Count yourself lucky they are in a position to offer you one, not many people across the world are as fortunate.

It is essential travel, and it is helping the country head towards getting us back to some kind of normality.

The mind boggles.

Isn't there a link where you can change it? My Mother in Law lives in Nottingham and doesn't drive but she got an appointment in Derby. Went on the link and got her one at QMC

i booked mine yesterday, the online booking seems a bit peculiar it offered me first of all a pharmacy in Fairfield, but the date was no good so i tried again and Newcastle was the nearest. I then used a different browser and managed to book a different day at the Fairfield pharma

Exactly, but Chris is saying that part of the reason he won’t go is cos the govt is advising against travel.

No I'm saying I'm not travelling 70 mile round trip.

Ill wait and my GP will do it in a couple of weeks and save me 140 miles.

There is no reason why living where I so I should need to travel an hour or more for a jab. Quite ludicrous really.

It is not about whether it is essential or not, but the travel is just as likely to spread the virus as it is if it was not essential.

Well I have had not one penny out of anyone throughout this pandemic and have had to support myself financially. I'm not wealthy, I'm not swimming in excess cash etc. So it stands to reason that support should be provided

Ludicrous, give your head a shake.

how are you just as likely to spread the virus? You’ll be sat in a car whether you go to your gp’s or Newcastle.
Fair enough if you don’t want to travel 70 miles, just say that. Don’t confuse with other points that aren’t factual

Thanks for you opinion.

It's noted. And duly forgotten.

It is essential.

We need you vaccinated so you can stop twisting on here about not being vaccinated.

Tell Boris I said you're ok to go ;-)

Crazy the amount of people having a moan about the distance they have to travel. Simple fact is that these sites further north have been created to fulfil small percentages of demand across the North East until each local authority has their own vaccination centre. People would probably moan again if these centres in Newcastle only offered jabs to Jawdees.

If you can't make it, don't worry about it. No need to go on like they're doing you an injustice.

I can see both sides. It looks to me like the government are trying to offer people the 'first available'. It seems as though that could involve a bit more travel than some people can undertake. As such, there is the individual's right to wait a bit longer and get vaccinated more locally 'in due course.

It's all about meeting their promise of offering the vaccine to certain groups. It doesn't mean those offered the vaccine can actually get there.

That said, I would jump in the car and make the journey because I'm one of those that can.

I can understand why the OP doesn't want to do it.

Have they moved onto the clinically vulnerable Chris or did you mean extremely clinically vulnerable?

If they have that really is incredible progress

If you can just make the trip, quicker you get the first one the quicker you get the second one and get some normality back

Sorry... Yes... Im classed as extremely clinically vulnerable.

But imagine the clinically vulnerable will be soon.

Hopefully they'll have more stations set up by then.

I got a phone call Tuesday teatime asking if I wanted the vaccine, booked an appointment for yesterday, all done and heading home by foot at 12. Unfortunately it then started raining so I jumped on a bus. I was the only passenger. Now I just have to wait till April for part II.

I too have received my vaccine offer letter.

I have an option of Newcastle (70 mile round trip) on 9th February or further away a day earlier. Alternatively I can wait for my GP to contact me which could be sooner or later (they can't tell me) or keep checking the website to see if a closer location or sooner dates are available.

Being clinically extremely vulnerable due to suppressed immune system makes me have to consider everything I do carefully and jumping in a car for 2 hours to a place I don't know is not a straightforward task or choice for a number of reasons.

It's definitely not an ideal situation, but I'm willing to wait for my GP to contact me rather than travel.

I've jus got my letter today and tried to book an appointment.

NHS Website: Impossible. Tried on several devices and it just freezes every time. (I assume Dido Harding had a hand in this site o_O )
119 Tele-line: Nearest available site they could offer me is 58 miles away.

I'll wait for the GP call
