Conspiracy theorists

Or do you think she just shouldn’t have to have a covid test if she doesn’t want to, perhaps because she doesn’t believe in all this covid nonsense?
Do you mean the covid nonsense conspiracy theory? The one that hundreds of thousands of medical staff around the world and bereaved families have signed up to play along with, to keep us ignorant unenlightened folk all in check?

Devil’s Advocate
What other tests are carried out on patients prior to operations?
It is a strange world where you can’t get the treatment you require because you might be ill ;)

There are a large number of ideas put forward in various articles about why some people are prone to believing conspiracy theories.

Here's a summary of some of the reasons found in various sources.

• A need for understanding and consistency
People often have a desire to derive certainty and understanding in an uncertain and sometimes confusing world. Belief in a conspiracy theory can be a way for people to feel that they do understand what's going on, thereby reducing the fear of uncertainty. This includes situations involving large-scale events, where more mundane or small-scale explanations seem inadequate, and situations where people experience distress over uncertainty.

• A need for control
There is evidence that people turn to conspiracy theories as a way of feeling safer and more in control. When people feel threatened by the nature of events that they see as beyond their control, they sometimes look to conspiracy theories to provide what they see as a more acceptable explanation, to avoid feeling they are at the mercy of events.

• A need to belong or feel special
Some researchers have hypothesized that by believing in conspiracies, people are able to feel better about themselves and their own social group. People often look for ways to boost their own self-perceptions. Feeling that you know about and can understand events in a way that others don't, can bolster the belief that you and the people you identify with are the ones with the real knowledge, making you superior to and distinct from those who believe in a simpler explanation. Also, when conspiracy theorists surf the internet for information they find (and sometimes interact with) others who hold similar beliefs. Thus, a belief in conspiracy theories can give them a sense of community.
Exactly this, and in a post-truth era its never been more difficult to find the truth, leading to more and more people believing the batshit crazy theories.

Ah you are wrong, I agree with the hospital asking for a covid test same as they would with testing for MRSA, you know with hospitals been seen as one of the more popular places to catch it.

Question is, how long before you need a test to enter a shop? Or a bank? Or a school? All those suggestions were shot down in April yet here we are with a test required before medical treatment which has then been denied.

Not sure, but I imagine it’s fairly good practice to test people for a highly communicable potentially deadly disease prior to putting them in a place with loads of vulnerable people.
I can’t understand why anybody would have an issue with getting a covid test (which is a mildly uncomfortable swab up the nose/in throat) prior to undergoing surgery in hospital, or why refusal to do so would mean the non-life threatening procedure being cancelled would come as a surprise?

Why only test for covid then? Ebola has arisen again in Africa these past couple of months and that's monumentally more dangerous to people's health than covid.

Another current conspiracy theory, Trump never had covid.

Ok, I see what you mean now.
I doubt it will be implemented in shops, banks, restaurants, widespread etc anytime soon. I think you can rest easy there.....

Let’s face it, we can’t remotely cope with the demand of those who need a test at the minute, let alone chucking millions more into the equation.

Tell you what though, if they had a fast instant test to check everyone was clear before they went into a supermarket or got on a train, I’d have no issue taking it, would feel nice and safe inside knowing nobody in the vicinity me had it.
Maybe we could then all take our masks off in the local Sainsbury’s, appease all the lovely anti-mask crowd?
Mind you, given half of the anti mask crowd are the same Facebook ‘educated’ numpties who think covid is just one big conspiracy theory, they’ll not be happy about being tested.

The point Randy makes is that things which people claimed would never happen and are ridiculous conspiracies are now beginning to happen.

Just because you @SmallTown and @FabioPorkpie now agree they should be happening doesn't mean that before it was considered a conspiracy. Does that make sense now?

Do you think they should test people in Ebola hotspots for Ebola, before admitting them to hospital for non-urgent treatments, if such a test was available?

It's more about the framework it puts in place, you can't see the woods for the trees on occasion.

Maybe you are right. I didn’t ever consider that being tested for covid prior to entering hospital would need to be a conspiracy theory, I just kind of hoped that system would be put in place, to be honest.
Seems common sense.
I’m surprised anybody dismissed the possibility of that as a conspiracy theory as it’s really not that fantastical at all.

Totally agree. Common sense a conspiracy theory? I was stunned to hear people transferred from hospitals to care homes weren't tested first as well.

No, I think it’s more about protecting the vulnerable people in hospital and the staff that look after those vulnerable people, and ensuring that they are able to continue looking after those vulnerable people without having to go and self isolate and be taken away from the frontline unnecessarily.
I think it’s more about that kind of thing, rather than any great sinister plans to erode our freedom, to be honest.

Not saying that there aren’t any great plans to erode our freedoms by the way, just that this Is not an example of such.

That's not the point I was complaining about. Randys arguments are easy to bat down because he always seems to use a false equivalence to "prove" them.

I heard on the radio that when Trump went into hospital his Tweet ended in some drivel including the word ( in capitols)TOGETHER.
Q Anon explained that Trump was communicating in code!
It meant "To get her". Meaning he's taking time off in order to get Hilary Clinton and the world wide pedo smuggling gang.
Perfectly rational if your a nutter.

It’s absolutely frightening that people are being taken in and believing that this dikkhead is some knight in shining armour battling the baddies for the betterment of all us un-enlightened plebs.
It should be hilarious but it’s just frightening.

That's why the other day I was asking about the progress towards a saliva test.
Don't the South Koreans have a test that gives you a result in 20 minutes?

On a separate note I read a corker the other that said Joe Biden isn't actually Joe Biden. 👀
