Cole Palmer or Phil Foden?

I think Foden has got back on track after an injury hit 2022/23 season and is now fully trusted by Pep Guardiola. He's been overshadowed by Bellingham to some extent, but his form this season has been outstanding and he's still only 23 and improving. His manager had this to say about him at the weekend.

“Forget about the goals. Of course they’re important, but do you know how he played? How he controls and accelerates. He has become already a top-class football player,” Guardiola explained.

“He was before a little boy, good actions. Now he has become already a world-class top player. So good. He can play everywhere, especially in the central positions, which is really, really good.

“In the middle, I think in the (Club) World Cup in Saudi Arabia, he play really good, he understand more the game. His work ethic and how he runs, everything. He has become a top, top class player.

“He’s young and can improve. Always I had the feeling that Phil always had the sense of goal.

“Always had this sense of he can score. I met him when he is 16-years-old, he train with us and a little bit like Cole Palmer, arrive there and always have the feeling they can score.

“Phil has this incredible ability, this incredible ability to do it.”

Foden without a doubt. His movement is unbelievable and the reason he has so much of the ball. Grealish is older but very similar to foden

Agree with the above.

Palmer has had a great season, and shouldn't be knocked.

But the comparison to Foden shouldn't happen.

Palmer isn't close to Foden, nowhere near in fact.

Foden would arguably walk into any side in the world. Palmer wouldn't get a game for the top 3 in the PL let alone the rest of the world.

Palmer could go on and have a great career, but he would need a huge upward trajectory to get close to Foden.

Foden by a country mile, though I do agree getting rid of Palmer seems an odd decision as he looks a quality young player..

Cole palmer has looked a real snip for Chelsea, been great this season but Phil Foden is different level in my humble opinion, neither fit to lace Barlasers boots mind

Palmer has been a standout player, playing in a pretty average Chelsea side (by their standards) however he's still not on Foden's level.

Hopefully Palmer will make the Euros squad. He should in my opinion.

Interesting, sounds to me like Pep isn't too happy with his conditioning and training from that.

The whole Jack Grealish love in was way over the top over the last couple of years. Yes he is talented, but he doesn't score enough or assist enough. He wins lots of free kicks, but that allows other teams to get back re-organise. His lifestyle is a bit of an issue too. For me he would be at risk of not going to the euros in the summer. I'd have Saka and Foden as the 2 first choice wide players, with Palmer, Maddison and Gordon. Probably have Sterling before him too

If Guardiola feels Foden is better centrally how does Southgate get him and Bellingham into the same team. Always feel Foden is wasted out wide for England but he doesnt get in ahead of Bellingham as the Nr 10

The answer would be to have them playing either side of Rice instead of having two defensive midfielders. Neither of them would be a number 10 but both would have the freedom to move into those advanced spaces when necessary.

Who would you then have wide left and wide right? Al hypothetical of course as no way Southgate is playing anything that offensive unfortunately
