I agree with that paragraph.Regardless though the British government made a commitment to stopping the use of coal and 12 months later have agreed to open a coal mine. Instead of these daft arguments just think of the world your children and grandchildren will inherit if we continue to use coal. It’s a huge step in the wrong direction
It’s not another coal rush, but even if we open up one new coal mine, how can we then expect other countries to reduce their usage on coal when we do the complete opposite?I agree with that paragraph.
I don't think we are at the start of another coal rush though. Probably just an ill thought out, temporary solution to a wide range of problems caused by the government, Putin, COVID etc.
I meant the money side of things. I can't argue against those who are local who are in favour because it will bring them jobs. They are only worried about the here and now at the moment. It’s not another coal rush, but even if we open up one new coal mine, how can we then expect other countries to reduce their usage on coal when we do the complete opposite?
It’s nothing to do with the problems caused by putin/Covid either. The article states it won’t be much good for British industry so will likely be shipped around the world for usage instead, it’s not going to be used for our own industry
You left off Brexit.I agree with that paragraph.

But the decision shouldn’t be up to just the locals, it has far reaching consequences way bigger than their community. But they are clearly being fed a lie. Let’s be honest it won’t create 500 well paying jobs for a start, and the second we get a semi functioning government which will likely happen in the next two years, they will rightly pull the plug on it and anything invested by that stage will just be wastedI meant the money side of things. Will a new government pull the plug once it's under way? That's hundreds of jobs down the drain. Plus supply chain jobs too.But the decision shouldn’t be up to just the locals, it has far reaching consequences way bigger than their community. But they are clearly being fed a lie. This isn’t the levelling up these communities were promised
You would assume so. We all know the job thing is a red herringWill a new government pull the plug once it's under way? That's hundreds of jobs down the drain. Plus supply chain jobs too.

It's just a spin to get people like you to defend it. People don't know how to mine coal anymore. We could be building wind farms here. Or a million other things that create jobs but don't destroy the planet.Coal mine operatives
Average pay data, working hours and employment projections for Coal mine operatives. Including gender and regional variations.careersmart.org.uk
Not bad money really given the hours involved.
The mine isn't going to run itself is it?

It is though isn't it? You have bairns I believe? It's wild to me that you'll come and defend something that'll risk their health. Absurd"People like you "
No, not on the defensive or the offensive. Just not getting myself into a rage over something that isn't going to affect you, me or anyone else in this country much at all.
Sometimes the way the climate discussion is thrown about on here reminds me of the weather girl Tobin off of GMB who bangs on about climate change whilst travelling the country with a camera crew in a van for 2 minute fluff pieces and then introduces Andi Peters who's flown half way around the world to promote a phone in competition.
Oh and obviously ignoring the second paragraph. It's full of the usual climate change denier whataboutery: "oh you can't preach on climate change because you once used a plastic straw" which is a diversionary tactic you love to use"People like you "

No whataboutery to it. It's just rank hypocrisy. Those in privileged positions expect everybody else to change their ways just so the privileged can continue to live the lives they are accustomed to.Oh and obviously ignoring the second paragraph. Of course man could arrest the closmte change IT nade. I know science isn't your thing but you really should give it a tryNo whataboutery to it. It's just rank hypocrisy. No denying climate is changing, this isn't a new phenomenon. It's done it since the dawn of the planet, hell multiple times before humans even started walking on land. Has mankind sped up this current climate change phase? More than likely. Can mankind stop this current phase of climate change? No, it could probably slow it down but what the human race has still failed to realise is that nature is inevitable.
I completely understand that but as a world leader in this, and having made a commitment at the last COP, opening up a new coal mine sends the compete wrong message, and makes it even less likely for other countries to followJust to put a bit of perspective on the production of coal -
Cumbria mine forecast production - 2 million tonnes per year
China 2022 forecast production - about 4 billion tonnes
The scale of coal mining and consumption in eastern countries is off the scale, far more than people realise.
