Claims we are open to offers for Djed Spence

If true, hardly surprising. Apparently we are looking at £5 million being the asking price.

In fairness to me he is one player we could get money for and equally miss the least. His career has stagnated at best, regressed at worst.

Money would be gratefully received, hopefully to be reinvested in reinforcements.

He need to be playing games, pushing for games.. tricky one really. If he's not pushing for it here.. who is to say that he will do it elsewhere?

I think he looked good as a wingback under Woodgate, I think he has struggled with his new role under Warnock his new responsibilities seem to have slowed his decision making. If he moves then best of luck to him. I hope he stays and improves under Warnock.

No malice towards the lad, but we need cash to improve the squad and he is a saleable asset who has been poor of late. I'm sure a move would be great for his career.

That debut game against Derby he was unplayable. Had Rooney chasing shadows but hasn’t managed to maintain that standard at all, wouldn’t be disappointed to see him sold.

Must get a sell on clause, if true. I still think he could make a striker, with the right coaching, although I’m unsure he’s got the strength/courage for that role

He could go on to be excellent, but I assume the club feel (partly based on Warnock's comments) that it could go either way. So it's a £5m gamble. Could be worth nowt in a couple of a years, could be worth £20m.

Easier for a prem club (or a champ club with parachute payments) to take that gamble than a club like us. Particularly as we're well covered in his position, which is right back. Certainly not RW.

The other element might be if he's settled or not. Might be pushing for a move back down south?

Must get a sell on clause, if true.

I don't think a sell on clause will matter so much in this case.

What would we realistically expect? Say 10% of a future fee? Even if he gioes for £20-30m in a few years that'd only be getting us a couple of mill. Better to get the maximum up front fee now and use it to hopefully get back to the Prem.

Nobodys going to be offering us £5m up front and 30/40/50% of a future fee.

I remember this time last season a few writing off Fry saying he'd regressed...

I'd keep hold of Spence. His value could easily triple if he has a good season. There is so much more to gain and he really could be an influential player if he can play to his potential somewhat consistently. Ultimately though, it comes down to whether Warnock thinks he can get the best out of him and whether he'll apply him self here and knuckle down.

The lad is 20 yeas old, he could develop into a vey good player or disappear in the lower leagues. It is down to the coaching staff and the managerr to get the best out of him. Players don't generally regress, they are just used in the wrong way or demotivated.

I want to see him stay and develop

In this day and age, he's done well to have made his debut by this age, let alone rack up 60 career appearances. Talk of stagnating is way over the top at this stage of his career.

I think he's the victim of his own early success: he burst onto the scene with such impact that the naive expected that, and improvement, from him from that point onward. Young players are erratic and always will be. It's not evidence of a bad attitude or lack of ability.

Should we sell? For a decent offer, yes. We're relatively strong at right back, and can use the money elsewhere. Should we get rid for the sake of getting rid? Of course not.

As for sell on clauses, what percent are we prepared to take off the up front fee to get one? Do you want £5million now, or £4 million and a 20% sell on clause?

This time last year I was wondering whether we should cash in on Tav after an inconsistent year, how he's blossomed and become a key member of the team. Not saying Spence will do the same but does have it in him if he really wants it.

If we get decent money for him to fund some new strikers sell him. I'd rather lose Spence than McNair, fry or Tav who are our only other players who would fetch north of a million. If not send him out on loan next season to somewhere he'll get 30 games.
