I have been so disappointed in a player who has most certainly regressed.
I can't believe we would turn down a significant fee for a player who we have no idea what he is.

This view that it is up to the coaches and Warnock to get the best out of his ability is strange. Does the player himself not have to take any responsibility?

This a tricky one - I still think there is a decent player there. I agree he was pretty hopeless at the emd of last season, but he has something. A lot seems to be in his mind - quite often I shout at him to run at players and take a risk, especially when he can get into a 1 to 1 opposed to 1 to 2. Last season he was getting more respect from the opposition and that made his job harder and his head dropped a bit.

If some does offer £5m and performance and transfer add ons, I may sell. The add ons should not make much difference to a buying club as they only pay it if he does well.
 
All he needs to do to improve his game is get his eyes tested, perhaps then he’ll stop giving the ball away. Contact lenses might do the trick.

So what price would you sell for?
I would take 2 million with 20% sell on clause.
Don’t think anyone will offer that though due to these COVID times not much money will be thrown about.
 
I think the £5M has been plucked out of the ether, just like the story itself. We do not have a single player on the books that SG wouldn’t sell in a heartbeat if the money was right. The same applies at every club.

What is Spence’s best position?, He is not a right back in a back 4 system, he is maybe a wing back, but not a £5M one, he switches off far too easily when defending in the box. He is certainly not a winger, he looks ok going forward in acres of space until a defender closes him down, then he stops and looks for an outball rather than taking the man on or trying to put a cross in. He often loses possession in those situations, he has bags of pace but little nous in what to do in the final third. Also, we have had Woodgate and Warnock both question his desire, commitment and attitude off the pitch, Fulham released him for that same reason too i believe.

He is still young, who knows, he may yet make it with the right fit somewhere if he matures but if we have any hope of making some decent signings, we need money and therefore sales. He is one who i would let go if the price was acceptable and the money and wages reinvested. I would like a sell on clause just in case, were he to be sold. I doubt there are PL suitors though despite the paper talk of Wolves, Everton and whoever else it was.
 
he must be unhappy as well in his form this season. If not then there certainly is a attitude issue. There seems to be a work ethic when on the pitch, gives up, looses men and has very little end product with a pass. Dont get why he is considered a 5m player at all. Richard Liburd was better....
