Chuba Gone - Confirmed

Merson stood out more than Chuba, but Chuba just kept scoring last season.

Merson was a current England International and earned more than Bergkemp was earning @ Arsenal in the same season. In today's money Merson was probably earning £120k/week. After one and a tiny bit of the next season, he said he was homesick and was sold to Villa. Gibson must have been subsidising the Club to a large degree

Merson had had problem with drugs and gambling and the drugs was public before we signed him, but he still managed to perform well in the Premier League/Div 1 for Arsenal and England during the early to late 1990s winning cups and the old Division1. Chuba so far has had one excellent season in the Championship.
Merson was a different kind of player.
Purely in terms of goals last season - no one has come near him.....since Bernie.

You can't have eggy bread for tea! Disgrace.
Given the apparent median take home wage of this board, I don't want to feel too removed from my fellow FMTTMers. So I want to add that my eggy bread (?French toast?) was accompanied by quails eggs and caviar.

(And a tin of Branston baked beans)

He had a great season but I don’t feel the same loss as I would had he stayed on for another couple or if we’d achieved something as a result of his goals.
It is what it is.
Let’s move on.

He had a great season but it's the only great season that he has ever had.He may repeat with his new club as it matches his style.

Chubas story last season was the things movies are made from. We all wrote him of at the start .... and was indeed a last resort when wilder didnt get the men he wanted. Can he keep it up? Hope so for Chuba as he seems to be a all round very very decent egg. A guy on his last year and with a team taking a punt on a one season wonder then I though 9 mill with add ons would have been ok, Better if we could have brokered a deal with him but guess his value rocketed after last season and wage expectations made in unrealistic. One of the few that leave with hearty GOOD LUCK from Boro fans.

Superb last season and seems like a good bloke too. Wish him all the best.

Who wouldn't move to Ajax from Middlesbrough?

As for the fee, it's a tricky one. Probably less than his value to the club but with a year left that will distort the figure. Ajax are a bigger draw and can pay more so it's only really the fee to agree and I don't think it's massively under market value.

Doing some work over there at the moment so hopefully get to see in a Europa League fixture in the not too distant. (y)
