Christmas Cancelled

Collectively as a family we had already decided not to have the usual family members round on Christmas Day. That includes 2 over-80's and 3 more in their 40/50's.

I will still be visiting my parents regardless, we've taken the necessary pre-cautions regarding isolating beforehand and ordering everything through deliveries.

It really doesn't have to be complicated and not everyone will have the same consideration unfortunately. Christmas certainly won't be cancelled.

So you agree with the relaxing of restrictions? Do you not think it'll further prolong things in the new year? Leading to more isolation and uncertainty
I don't agree with it and I will not be meeting anyone outside my 'bubble'. I would just like to go to a Covid secure pub with my family for Xmas Eve

What can they do for Christmas though? If they put rules in place people simply wont follow them. People do need to use their common sense but a fair proportion of this country have none, we can blame the government all we want but the main reason this is continuing to spread is down to people not behaving properly. The rules really arent that difficult to understand.

The same people will be moaning in January that the pubs arent open, were in another lockdown and any treatment on the NHS non covid is cancelled, is it really worth it for a few days of celebration over christmas?

Some people might not have followed them, but the vast, vast majority would. Yes, they’d have moaned about them and it would have been an unpopular decision, but the vast majority of the British population have followed whatever rules were in place throughout this pandemic.

We need leadership from our government, not populism or playing to their libertarian backbenchers. Leadership is about doing things because they’re the right things to do, not because they’re popular.

I repeat the point, having a go at people for doing what the government tells them they’re allowed to do is shooting at the wrong target. If the rules are wrong, that’s the fault of those in power who are setting them.

Does this mean all the zombies will be descending on Whitby for 5 days, spreading the virus everywhere once again and frothing at the mouth for their precious fish and chips? 🙄😒🧟‍♂️

My wife, daughter and I are isolating before my father-in-law comes over for christmas, as is he. We are foregoing seeing any other family at all, our 4 other kids our brothers and sisters and my dad.

We present very little risk and haven't been out for days now.

My daughter who is 9 is a problem as she will be inschool until Friday so will only isolate for 6 days but it is the best we could manage.

We are not, as some are suggesting, organising a big booze up, though my wife has made vodka moonshine which is awful, but she likes it.

We have about a gallon if anyone is interested?
Can you PM me please mate. So far all we've got is some ropey sherry and a reluctance to get on board with the Christmas free for all

Nail on head 👍

This is to reduce the Governments responsibilities
when the Blame Games Begins..
They will put most of the blame on YOU..

I am not sure my wifes vodka is the answer Artie. It's vodka sugar and danberries, it is sweet, sickly and sends shivers down your spine. She was drinking some out of a jam jar last night just to complete the look!

She did buy me 18 cans of Carling though, but they have to last until easter I am told.

The truth is we are allowed to make our own minds up and ST amongst others, but he is the most vocal, berrating people is thoughtless. He can do as he pleases as can the rest of us.

If you are planning on spending some time with family over christmas, do so responsibly and ignore ST's barbs.

I think 5 days of living like a human being again will do a lot of us a hell of a lot of good, and will make people far more willing to go back to hiding under the table again for another 3 or 4 months until spring rolls around. Let's just hope that when we do emerge there's some sort of community for us to rejoin.
