Christmas Cancelled

I think 5 days of living like a human being again will do a lot of us a hell of a lot of good, and will make people far more willing to go back to hiding under the table again for another 3 or 4 months until spring rolls around. Let's just hope that when we do emerge there's some sort of community for us to rejoin.
That’s the thing. The argument that “oh but we’ve all been isolated for a year why can’t we have a few days off” completely ignores the fact that those few days off will extend the isolation and misery in 2021. That’s what I can’t get my head round: people complaining they have been isolated or lonely not quite understanding that getting together at this point well extend the isolation and misery and financial impact. I just don’t get why people can’t grasp this concept.

The truth is we are allowed to make our own minds up and ST amongst others, but he is the most vocal, berrating people is thoughtless. He can do as he pleases as can the rest of us.

If you are planning on spending some time with family over christmas, do so responsibly and ignore ST's barbs.
That’s the point. It’s back to the “common sense” thing isn’t it. You seem to think that gathering in different groups of households whilst cases are rising is fine. I think it’ll exacerbate the problem and can’t see how it won’t. You shouldn’t be “doing what you want” if you think it’s ok to spread the virus between households

I think with the schools closed it probably wont be all that noticeable regardless of what happens. Unfortunately there would be more benefit if people didn't get together AND the schools were shut.

That’s a good point: it’ll have less impact than when we opened the schools

You can see by this thread alone that any sense of community is shot to bits.
It is classic dictatorship syndrome - turn people against each other to stop them joining together to force change.

I do agree with this. The amount of blame is quite staggering considering this is a highly contagious virus.

I don't really agree with that. The internet is not real life, though it is having a big impact on it. People tend to be more civil when there's the risk they could be punched in the face, and face to face interactions allow humour and non verbal communication to take a greater role.

My concerns are really that we are walking into a way of life that is bad for us as human beings. Working from home, high streets closing, fewer reasons to interact with each other.

In that book sapiens the author talks about moving into farming from being hunter gatherers, or the industrial revolution, giving people a less fulfilling life. I fear that we are taking these steps now.

So many that I've talked to are finding the working from being a far more civilised way to live. No commute, no office bullying and office political nonsense. More freedom over how to organise your life whilst still being productive, along with increased production without the distractions of office life.

We stopped being an organised workforce a long time ago, hence the awful state the country is now in politically, socially and economically.

The office jobsworth will be struggling due to loss of domain but that's not a bad thing.

I can handle never going back into an office on a permanent basis, it's the social isolation I'm finding more problematic, but having worked away from home for decades I can handle it more than many.

One thing I am absolutely sure about ST is I don't care what you think.

You spend time to respond though. It’s just a shame you can’t see what’s going on in the world and why people should try and stop the spread of COVID. I’d have though by now you’d have worked out what was happening

I am not sure my wifes vodka is the answer Artie. It's vodka sugar and danberries, it is sweet, sickly and sends shivers down your spine. She was drinking some out of a jam jar last night just to complete the look!

She did buy me 18 cans of Carling though, but they have to last until easter I am told.
I'd drink her vodka nonsense over Carling any day mate! Have a word with yourself ffs

Anyone who thinks mixing 3 households for 5 days is a good idea clearly wants their bumps felt, its absolute madness, be patient wait for the vaccine and party next year.
