Not really, noThat’s how their economy works, have a big workforce, many immigrants
A euphemism for cheap and virtually slave labour

But they can't all settle in the first safe country they land in can they? Because that would mean that Italy and Greece would have to deal with nearly all of them.
It sort of is. A lot of people with a hatred of immigrants voted Brexit for it.
.......but those that are crossing the channel are economic migrants and not fleeing persecution. Proof ?
"We can’t even house and feed the homeless" (?)
Ask yourself what has happened in the last 40 years which has lead to at least half of our public housing stock being handed over to the private market?
Who made that decision and why?
Ask why Local Authorities have not been allowed to build thousands of houses for social need?
Who and what has prevented them?
Who has benefited from the transfer of tenancies to the private sector?
Why have more people with complex needs, especially mental health issues, ended up being homeless than 40 years ago?
Did "immigrants" close day centres, sure start centres, elderly persons homes, libraries, youth clubs, local resource centres, local post offices, withdraw local social bus services or farm out profitable NHS services to private vultures?
Have "immigrants" sold off British Telecom, Royal Mail, British Rail, British Steel, Water Utilities, Electricity generation and supply, British Gas, National Express, British Airports Authority, deregulated local bus and public transport infrastructure, reduced taxes on the rich whilst cutting public sector wages through under-inflation increases [see NHS Nurses]..................where did the "profits" go from the public purse?
Did "immigrants" bail out bankers who forced their own system to come crashing down?
The answer is not "immigrants" - but those in power and their friends.
A completely evil woman and the reason I've been away from the North East for over 40 years.Hard to argue with that.
Thatcher destroyed society and the communities of the North East still have not recovered
So what should that process be? Land in Italy or Greece, apply for asylum and then get allocated a country. That would be fair, right?Agreed but go through the process, I have no problems with legal immigration
Brexiteers hijacking the fact they are the type my family fought against and defeated. So, they are escaping war and danger.
Good job our fathers and grandfathers didn't run to the US, Canada, Aussie et al in 1939.
As a father would you risk the life of your family staying put when in danger?
The only reason we can't feed and house everybody is because we choose not to. Tories are at the forefront of such decisions. If you vote for them then you vote to accept suffering.
I'd imagine that if the UK was invaded by an overwhelmingly superior force, had all it's infrastructure destroyed and then been left in ruins and anarchy, then quite a lot of people would be attempting to clear off somewhere better.I repeat
So, they are escaping war and danger.

How do you establish they are illegal before they come to our borders?I don't hate immigrants (hate is a very strong word) but I do believe ILLEGAL immigrants should be returned to the place where they came from immediately prior to coming to the UK ( i.e. France in most cases)
So, they are escaping war and danger.

It's not even accurate history. At the onset of WW2 Europe was awash with people fleeing the war. We sent many children to Canada and the "colonies", we even considered sending the Royal Family there. We moved children out of cities and the South East (which was largely militarized). The major reason there wasn't a mass exodus was simply one of geography there was nowhere left to run to. Crossing the Atlantic to Canada was fraught with danger (I expect you are familiar with the story of the SS Lusitania in WW1?). In the aftermath of the war Europe was littered with displaced people. So, they are escaping war and danger.

Why are we at the bottom of the league of all major European countries where refugees who apply [for asylum] are granted asylum?Nope but at the same time I wouldn’t risk my sons life by travelling through dozens of countries and across thousands of miles of land, borders and water. Is France not a safe country and does persecution and harm suddenly end when they cross the channel?
The more you take in, the more you help and the more you give shelter and aid to, then the more you will encourage to come here and the more will die trying to achieve it.
Anyone that chooses to travel through and leave safe countries like France in order to get to the U.K. is a economic migrant, this is illegal immigration that costs lives and only benefits criminals.
How many migrant camps do we have in this country? It’s the last stop and the holy grail for economic migrants. We aren’t returning them all and we aren’t housing them in camps like other countries so why do you think they keep trying to come here? Maybe if we housed them in camps like France they wouldn’t be so keen to risk their lives to get here. The only way you are going to stop people dying is to stop giving them the incentive to get to the U.K. by travelling half way round the world and leaving safe counties.
Ant parent who would put his or her 2 year old child in a dingy or non sea worthy boat is a piece of ****. It is not our fault, my fault or any body else's fault other than the parent. The best thing to do in my opinion is to deny entry and deport to the place where they come from. Let every one know they are not welcome and I say this to save lives of more innocent children. If there is no incentive to leave then they won't die at sea.Very sad that picture. As a father I would do anything for my kids. I’d swim the channel with them on my back however something needs to be done and the kids don’t die.
We are being overrun and the numbers on this island cannot continue to grow as they are.
In only a few generations there will be famine on these shores, high crime, low unemployment, unimaginable poverty.
I posted yesterday about Belgium and Holland being beautiful places and people going through them to get here. Why?
I think we all know the answer. The benefits package on offer. After all, as pointed out in the blm threads, racist is rife here don’t you know.
I’ve been to the Middle East. They have fvck all and I mean fvck all. It’s horrendous to witness actually.
I do however believe that we have a duty to protect what we have and if that means turning boats around then that’s what will have to happen.
