Iam there regularly, it's no worse than other run down areas.
Of course all is not well , it never is in the poorest areas.
I think some people see brown faces and hear people speaking other languages and feel threatened.
Would you feel safer walking round some of the estates after dark?
Not that long ago gangs of youths were roaming parts of middlesbrough carry baseball bats attacking people.
I don't feel any less safe walking that area than I would have 30 years ago.
As I said above the litter is a big problem and they seems to be a bigger drug problem, which doesn't seem as prevalent in the imigrant population to be fair.

I lived there all my life apart from the last 2 years but before I left it was a hell of a lot more dangerous than it was 25 years ago and it’s not even close.

That has nothing to do with skin colour either, the people I wrote about earlier in the thread with machetes, slashing tyres, putting windows through etc were all white. My parents lived a life of hell their last year in their house because of their neighbours, again white.

I’m sure some people have a go about the area due to different nationalities living there but I’m not one of them. I lived it in that area and it is awful.

Central Boro and especially the Parliament Road/Crescent Road area is awful now. Truly dreadful place to live.

Before we moved away recently we’d been in Linthorpe for 8 years and that area is on the same trajectory.

The decline appears unstoppable.

Why would you say that regarding Linthorpe?

We only moved 4 months ago so my experience is very recent. Increase in crime, anti social behaviour, we literally had people fighting outside our house drunk, increased drug use, begging in the village etc.

It’s not as bad as the other areas mentioned (yet) but the decline of the area over the past few years is palpable.

Linthorpe is a great area to live imo

The parts towards the area being talked about. The kids that lived next door to my missus were involved in it and they weren't the only ones. It's the same across the country. Wherever I've had digs, Manchester, Reading, London there's been very rough areas as they're taken over by the drug mobs.

Slashing police and community services has contributed to the accelerating decline.

The area talked about isn't linthorpe ?

All I am saying is enforce the laws currently on statute I.e. it is a criminal offence to use hard drugs. They are never enforced in practice and thus you see areas like Parliament Rd rattling with crackheads and criminals stealing to buy crack.
Enforcement so basically lock them up, surround them by hardened criminals/gangs for a few years then release them to be perfect citizens?

In the 70''s ( and obviously before) Linthorpe was a place people would aspire to live.
It clearly isn't now and any one who cant see its slow ( and inevitable ) decline is blind.
It's not a Boro thing , it's a socio economic thing repeated in the leafy victorian/ Edwardian suburbs of dozens of poor northern towns . As the town expands the old suburbs merge with the centre.
