Central Middlesbrough & Parliament Road

Sorry for linking to the Sun, but it's necessary in this case. Absolutely shocking state the town is in now. Razor wire INSIDE a shop. Crack cocaine all over. Just been left to decay.

I moved to Boro (TS4) last year from Redcar and there's definitely parts i avoid like the plague and certain parts even the Mrs (Born and bred Boro, lived all over the town) doesn't go especially at night but without a good reason to, why would i? You definitely have to have your wits about you, but the same can be said for how many towns and cities across the UK/World so to single out Middlesbrough isn't fair but its a Boro forum so we're hardly going to discuss the plight of Luton or Blackburn.

Typical Sun, very sensationalist. Why did they have to include the interview with the lady who was sexually assaulted by her partner, this could have happened anywhere!

The biggest problem in that area are the indigenous drug users.
Yet many try and blame the migrants , many of whom are just trying to get by.
Some people seem intimidated/offended when they hear a foreign accent.
I walk there often don't feel any less safe than you would in any low income area housing the poorest in society.
Litter seems to be a major problem in that area

Same can be said for so much of Boro, especially fly tipping in the housing estates, some often left there for weeks on end which is frustrating because cage council vans go by all the time.

Quotes from a tory mayor plus residents of an area which mainly voted tory, complaining about crimes with huge links to poverty and deprivation (which has increased drastically in the last decade) actually blaming the police for this (who have had their numbers cut drastically over the last decade) for not having enough officers on the street

How long can people keep believing this

I lived on Parliament Road when I was younger, until about 18. Used to walk down the side streets, into town, through the park, played football on the streets towards the Newport end, all without a care in the world. I wouldn’t be doing that now.

Every time I’ve been down there since moving out I’ve always looked over my shoulder or steered away from groups. It’s an absolute cesspit with rubbish everywhere.

Feel sorry for some of the businesses that have been there for years.

It doesn't help when you have a Police and Crime Commissioner who doesn't believe there's a link between police numbers and crime, had failed to meet any of his pre-election promises regarding drones, phone apps, believes that policing drug crimes can only be done one way, the same way a method which hasn't worked for the last decade or so, I would suggest that a man who has attended far right EDL rallies possibly wouldn't be the best fit to understand problems that beset the diverse communities in areas like Parliament Road, another opportunist shyster who made big promises and has delivered nothing, apart from a revelation of dismissal from a job and a police caution for theft and 2 ongoing investigations into historical sexual assault.

I drove around that area one evening last week, after a meal in The Oven. Lots of people sat on doorsteps , chatting, watching the world go by.
And so many barber shops and hairdressers, open quite Late.

Sadly locking up drug users for years is a huge vote winner despite millions of examples showing it just makes things worse, would expect drug laws to get even tougher under this government
