Carrick announced.

Can’t wait for Carrick to try and instil Fergie style training and tactics, only to see the ball fired into Akpom & Watmore who balloon it over the bar from 2 yards out.

I have stuck to the facts in my comments because I know I struggle to objective about Jonathan Woodgate.

I obviously hope they succeed and that I'm eating my words about him at the play off final next year...

I'll wind my neck in for now.

It's a truly ridiculous appointment. Failed so miserably when he was last here, and showed himself to be a nugget in his media interviews. What must the players who were here when he was manager be thinking?

I can't believe that, out of all the footballing contacts Michael Carrick must have, he's personally chosen Jonathan Woodgate as his first coaching appointment. This past few weeks of 'waiting to finalise his backroom team' stinks of Woody already being involved and us having to convince Carrick. If Woody was his first choice, surely he's jumping at the chance and the appointment is made very quickly.
of all the contracts that Liverpool had why would they chose to have Jonathan Woodgate’s involved in their set up?

The same could be said of Bournemouth! Why would they have him out of all the possible managers they could have chosen?

Why did they let him go 1.78ppg with them?

Everyone is an idiot apart from a few boro fans online eh!

They’re owned by a murderous regime. Don’t make it worse for them.

Who will be winning trophies galore for them , I’m sure they’re gutted . They certainly act like it

I’m sure they’d much rather be languishing at the bottom of the championship with a locally owned chairman who doesn’t know what he’s doing

Go support them instead then.

Middlesbrough doesn't need the support of anyone willing to condone the atrocities committed by their owners just to justify winning a football game.

I would every single time, rather have a local owner in league 2 over what's happened at Newcastle.

No , I’m not a mag

I’m willing to point out a solid majority of boro and Newcastle fans couldn’t locate Saudi Arabia on a map let alone care about the atrocities .

As I said , being locally owned means nothing to me . It probably didn’t help derby either . They are most likely going to have stars playing at st James and winning trophies while we languish in league 1. But at least you still have your sense of moral superiority .

I don’t expect us to get such rich owners, we’re not a sleeping giant. I want someone F***ing competent though , which gibson isn’t

I really couldn’t give a toss about winning trophies and seeing stars.
I mean we’ve won one trophy in 130 odd years…. Has it stopped us following Boro? Has it meant we don’t really care about the club and we aren’t really invested in it and we don’t really enjoy the wins?
I’d argue we enjoy the sniffs at success, the cup semi finals and promotion seasons far more than a Man City or Chelsea fan enjoys winning the league now. I work with a ‘massive’ Chelsea fan. Talks about them all the time. But mainly he’s angry when they don’t beat inferior teams like little old us. Yet last time they were in the champions league final, he didn’t even watch them on the telly! When you expect to win stuff every season, and you expect to win every game, it must get a bit, well, mundane. The magic of a big win for us against a big team, or a cup run, is a real buzz, because they are so few and far between.
I dare say all Boro fans enjoyed beating Man Utd Last season more than most Man City fans enjoyed winning the league.
My Geordie mate knows he’ll enjoy the first few years of winning trophies but then thinks he’ll just get a bit numb to it, the magic will be diminished, and I believe he’s spot on.
Football is about so much more than being successful all the time. Just a little bit here and then, or a slim chance of success every now and then, is enough to sustain most football fans. It must be, otherwise there wouldn’t be 4 really well supported divisions of the professional stuff.

I’ve just had a look at who Kieran McKenna brought in with him at Ipswich last year, given he was in a similar position alongside Carrick at Man United.

He brought in Marytn Pert, who was another United coach and for a couple of years, he had a bit of a journeyman career before that.

He then brought in Lee Grant as goalkeeper coach this summer, another who was on United’s books for a few years.

If Carrick can emulate the type of performances that McKenna has since going to Ipswich, we should be on to something good.

Seems a nice bloke. Maybe too nice, couldnt visualise him giving players the hair dryer treatment. Have my doubts it will be a success but give lad a chance to prove me wrong.
