Carrick announced.

Hands up all those who really feel concerned — if they weren’t already lol 😆.

I expected Carrick with some solid old wise men behind him. But oh well, it is what it is and Carrick seems like he has a good pedigree to be a good manager. Woody was picked up by Bournemouth last time out so they must have seen something in him also. Hope springs eternal.

Why are some annoyed at Gibson for the woodgate appointment.
We don't know if Carrick wanted him and the hold up was Gibson saying no until persuaded otherwise.
No one knows what names were talked about behind closed doors, clearly - as absolutely nobody had Woodgates name on their lips... 😆

New era. New chapter. Can't wait to get behind the new (and re-new-ed) boys at the Riverside. #UTB

Michael Carrick on joining #Boro 🗣️

“I’m really excited to be here and to be part of a club with such a deep history and tradition. Middlesbrough was the first professional club I played for as a nine-year old boy, so it’s a very special feeling to be back here as a head coach.”

“Growing up in the north-east myself I’m fully aware of what football means to people. It’s a real privilege for me to be in this position and to feel all the passion and enthusiasm you’ve got for the game and for Boro.”

“I’ll give everything to help develop the team and keep moving the club forward and make you the supporters proud. I can’t wait to get started.”

Anyone know if Carrick and Woodgate played youth football together - both in boro schoolboy set up before making it elsewhere and only a year apart in age???

I’m neutral on Carrick . But woodgate ? **** off gibson . He’s obsessed with ducking hiring people from around the area with **** all regard for competency .

I don’t care if woodgate is a red (he isn’t ) but he nearly relegated this club . You don’t F***ing rehire people who are poor at jobs.

I really wish Carrick and Woodgate well. They will have my 100% support.

I am though really disappointed with both appointments. I am seriously worried about the rest of the season. I hope I am proved VERY wrong.

Is he a poor coach though? I don’t think so.

Really, really, pleased for Michael Carrick and Jonathan Woodgate.
Chuffed that Leo has the new "Player - pathway" role - supporting the academy youngsters transition to the Senior squad.
Genuinely feel excited [never thought I would] - a fresh start and a new direction.
Carrick has contacts at the highest levels of British and world football.
He has the "pull" that Bryan Robson had.
Dont want to dream too soon or get over-optimistic [always do] - but could this be........the real new beginning?
UTMB!!!!!

"Head Coach" - I read that as "we're not going to buy the players you want mate, so don't even think about it"

So, we're not spending the £25m we've took in from Tav and Spence, not anytime soon anyway, and not on players the managers (head coaches) want.

I think we've given up on promotion in the next couple of years, and are still looking at trimming bills, and more looking at buying development players, so I don't expect too much for the next couple of years. Maybe it will be better for us long term, if the recruitment pays off, but we've got no great history of doing that.

I don't see what Woodgate can do as 1st team coach either, what's Carrick gonna do in his spare time, when Woddy's coaching the side, it's not like he's going to be managing, or looking for players, as someone else will be doing that. Seems like Woody is a cost-saving measure, as he's not exactly got a great track record, and not the sharpest tool in the box.

Maybe Carrick will be "the manager", but not when it comes to ultimate decision-making, seems to me it's going to put him in an awkward position, but hope he does well. It's going to be touch for him.

If that was the case, surprised Carrick has taken on the role. However interesting that I haven't read anywhere how long his contract is? Surely, we must have promised him something to take on the job. If he turned down Blackburn and maybe one or two other championship teams in the summer, I can't see why he would come to us given our current state, without some sort of assurances that he can change the personnel, if he doesn't like them.
