Carrick announced.

Wasnt leadbitter a player develipnent and pathway coach. Hope leo is happy in his new role. coach?

Well, didn't think this appointment could be any more underwhelming but they've absolutely nailed it.

Rewarding failure now? It would be bad enough if he had absolutely no links to the club but the transparency of the "old pals act" is stunning.

I thought he was bringing top people with him? What happened to Mike Phelan and Rene Meulensteen? Really hoped we were clearing out everybody associated with our long history of negative defensive coaching. Woodgate back - wow
Haven’t you realised by now this is Gibsons stock play - talk really big then deliver average.

How to temper all expectation and diminish the excitement of a new appointment in one quick move. Woodgate.
Whatever, best of luck to them. Onwards and upwards. UTFB

Really, really underwhelming back up to Carrick there.

I'm nervous now.

Woodgate is the experienced head.
It's a truly ridiculous appointment. Failed so miserably when he was last here, and showed himself to be a nugget in his media interviews. What must the players who were here when he was manager be thinking?

I can't believe that, out of all the footballing contacts Michael Carrick must have, he's personally chosen Jonathan Woodgate as his first coaching appointment. This past few weeks of 'waiting to finalise his backroom team' stinks of Woody already being involved and us having to convince Carrick. If Woody was his first choice, surely he's jumping at the chance and the appointment is made very quickly.

This made me laugh but not in a positive way :ROFLMAO:

Managed 23 games for Bournemouth, 41 for Middlesbrough, Assistant Manager of: Tony Pulis (80 Games), Garry Monk (26 Games), Steve Agnew (10 Games), Craig Liddle (1 Game)

Fantastic addition. Folks wouldn’t have batted an eyelid it it had been Grant Leadbitter.

This is a genuinely good appointment.

I like the appointment, much better than the rumoured Alex Bruce...

...but Woodgate wasn't assistant under Monk (James Beattie was). Pulis brought Woody in as a U18 coach.
Pulis brought Dave Kemp and then Sam Ellis in as his assistants, although Woody might have been pitch side towards the end...
and Agnew's assistant was Joe Jordan.

I will go with carrick bringing in an assistant from man utd days. Someone he played with. One of the nevilles maybe?

Woody is a strange one. Not good for his mental health as im sure if it goes wrong he will be a scapegoat.

No way was there a 2 week hold up to get Woodgate in place. He's been unemployed.

Looks clear that he couldn't get the backroom team he wanted. So much for the contacts!

I don't really know how much involvement a manager needs from the coaches. I wouldn't trust Woodgate to be manager, or provide advice, but if he can follow Carrick's instructions to get the team doing whatever is needed in training then there's probably nothing to be worried about.

Just seems really underwhelming. Would probably have been better to have not mentioned Woodgate in the article and just said Carrick's backroom staff will be x, y & z as a single announcement when it was finalised. Just Woodgate's name makes it sound like he's a big part of things.

Leo's job doesn't really exist does it. Definitely jobs for the boys but at least I get the sentiment with that one.
