Carrick announced.

Really? All I remember of Carrick was him playing 5 yard passes sideways and backwards.
I’ll say this again Carrick should have been the English Xavi he was a phenomenal footballer sadly for England he was never really played in his key role.

Look at what he won and who coached him.

I really wish Carrick and Woodgate well. They will have my 100% support.

I am though really disappointed with both appointments. I am seriously worried about the rest of the season. I hope I am proved VERY wrong.

Same , I could rally behind Carrick if he had some experienced coaching team to guide him , but Gibson has once again gone for the jobs for the boys route

The season is dead , if it wasn’t already. Waiting for downing and catrermole to get a job too

I don’t really get it? I don’t think the issue people have is with Carrick . It’s the donkey that is woodgate is assisting him

Carrick needs experience in his coaching staff to guide him
Come back and have a proper whinge if you’re still not happy when the full coaching set up is announced. Until then I don’t get the need to waste energy getting worked up over it.

"Head Coach" - I read that as "we're not going to buy the players you want mate, so don't even think about it"

So, we're not spending the £25m we've took in from Tav and Spence, not anytime soon anyway, and not on players the managers (head coaches) want.

I think we've given up on promotion in the next couple of years, and are still looking at trimming bills, and more looking at buying development players, so I don't expect too much for the next couple of years. Maybe it will be better for us long term, if the recruitment pays off, but we've got no great history of doing that.

I don't see what Woodgate can do as 1st team coach either, what's Carrick gonna do in his spare time, when Woddy's coaching the side, it's not like he's going to be managing, or looking for players, as someone else will be doing that. Seems like Woody is a cost-saving measure, as he's not exactly got a great track record, and not the sharpest tool in the box.

Maybe Carrick will be "the manager", but not when it comes to ultimate decision-making, seems to me it's going to put him in an awkward position, but hope he does well. It's going to be touch for him.
I think you might be right. We can write off automatic for the foreseeable anyway and challenging for the play offs may be a financial gamble were unwilling to take at present?

I don't have an issue with that approach providing expectations are managed accordingly. I think a few supporters will be expecting instant success. This doesn't feel like it's designed to achieve that.

I will inevitably have a whinge anyway . The dinosaur chairman has hardly got anything right these last 16 years , so I have no faith in Gibson to get this right

A manager coaches
Not to the same extent, if at all. Some managers never set foot in the training pitch. He has all kinds of other responsibilities and coaches to delegate that to. It's not the same job at all.

THE POWER OF FOOTBALL

Newcastle born and bred, Michael has always had a deep-rooted passion for football which began at the age of just four, when he started attending Wallsend Boys Club.

The Club supports young people by unlocking their sporting potential, developing their skills and resilience and helping them to become positive figures in their community.

Through his time at Wallsend and experience growing up in an area of deprivation, Michael learnt the skills and discipline needed to not only become a professional footballer, but a dedicated and respected role model. Michael strongly believes that his achievements would not have been possible without the support and services that were available to him, both on and off the pitch.

It's this belief that has inspired Michael to give something back and is the platform for which The Michael Carrick Foundation was built.

Through his Foundation, Michael is committed to providing opportunities for youngsters to thrive in communities close to his heart, Greater Manchester and Tyne and Wear.

It’s not but I’m sure when he was manager he was involved in most of the training sessions.

Cattermole already has one, with the U18s.
